Yes—YouTube Music’s long-playlist shuffle problem is still being reported in 2026, but it is not proven to affect every user or every playback mode. The clearest pattern is a playlist containing hundreds of tracks producing a much smaller initial queue, particularly when playback is cast. Local phone playback or Bluetooth may load more completely, while downloaded playback can behave differently online and in airplane mode.
Google documents how to start Shuffle play, but does not publish a current universal queue limit or a statement confirming that this specific problem has been fixed everywhere.
What the problem actually is
“Bad shuffle” can describe several different failures. Before troubleshooting, identify which one you are seeing:
- Partial queue: a 300–600-track playlist creates an Up Next queue containing only a fraction of its songs.
- Repeated subset: playback keeps returning to songs from one part of the playlist.
- Premature continuation: the playlist appears to end and YouTube Music starts recommendations.
- Dynamic queue: more tracks are added progressively rather than being displayed immediately.
- Cast mismatch: the phone and the Chromecast or other playback target appear to have different queue states.
- Offline difference: a downloaded playlist behaves differently with an internet connection than it does in airplane mode.
A short visible queue does not automatically prove that songs have been lost. YouTube Music may load tracks incrementally. The stronger evidence of a defect is repeated playback from a narrow subset, failure to append new playlist tracks, recommendations replacing playlist songs, or different behavior between local and cast playback.

Is YouTube Music’s long-playlist shuffle fixed?
There is no clearly documented universal fix. A June 9, 2026 YouTube Music Community report described a 567-song playlist producing a 97-song queue after the user selected Shuffle play. The report also said that casting was associated with the incomplete queue, while playback on the phone or through Bluetooth behaved more completely.
That is current, relevant evidence, but it is still a user report rather than a controlled platform-wide test. It shows that the problem remains possible; it does not establish how many users are affected.
Google’s official instructions explain the shuffle controls but do not identify a large-playlist bug, specify a 50-, 100-, or 200-song queue limit, or announce that the issue has been resolved. Older Community discussions reported queues of roughly 50 to 100 tracks in some situations and up to about 200 when using other queue actions, but those observations from 2020–2021 are not current specifications. An academic evaluation also described a queue capacity of 50 in its tested environment, but that does not prove a universal limit in the current app.

Practical conclusion: treat reported fixes as partial or playback-mode-specific improvements, not proof that long-playlist shuffle works reliably everywhere.
Use the official shuffle path first
To test the behavior using Google’s documented method:
- Open the playlist itself in YouTube Music.
- Open the playlist’s three-dot menu.
- Select Shuffle play.
- Open the player and inspect Up next.
Google also documents a shuffle control inside the player and Library → Songs → Shuffle all. Menu placement can vary by operating system, app version, account state, language, and rollout status.

Do not assume that tapping the player’s shuffle icon after starting a song constructs exactly the same queue as choosing Shuffle play from the playlist menu. User reports suggest that the two routes can behave differently, although Google does not document them as separate large-playlist fixes.
Most useful troubleshooting sequence
1. Start from the playlist page
Do not begin from a search result, recommendation, album page, or another app’s shortcut. Open the actual playlist so YouTube Music has the best chance of using the complete playlist context.
2. Use the playlist menu’s Shuffle play command
Record the playlist’s stated track count, then select Shuffle play from the overflow menu. Inspect the initial queue, but do not judge the result only by its first few songs.
3. Compare the player shuffle control
Start one playlist track normally, open the player, and tap its shuffle control. Compare the queue with the result from the playlist menu. If one method consistently produces a larger or more varied queue, record that distinction in your feedback report.
4. Disable Autoplay while testing
Turn Autoplay off so recommendations do not make the queue appear longer after the playlist portion ends. Autoplay changes what happens after the constructed queue reaches its end; it does not prove that the entire playlist was loaded.

Make sure Repeat is not set to repeat the current song. Repeat settings can make a queue appear broken even when the playlist itself was loaded correctly.

6. Let the playlist load before starting
Some users report that opening the playlist and scrolling through it—sometimes all the way to the bottom—causes more tracks to load before shuffle begins. Other reports say this is inconsistent, especially with very large playlists. Treat it as an experiment, not an official repair:
- Open the playlist itself.
- Allow continued scrolling until no more tracks appear, if the interface supports it.
- Choose Shuffle play from the playlist menu.
- Inspect the queue and continue playback far enough to see whether new tracks are appended.
7. Test local playback before casting
Play through the phone or tablet without casting. Then test Bluetooth separately, followed by Chromecast or another cast target. The June 2026 report associated the incomplete queue with casting but described local and Bluetooth playback as more complete. That is an important diagnostic distinction, not proof that casting is always the cause.
8. Test downloaded playback both online and offline
If the playlist is downloaded, compare:
- downloaded playback with the internet enabled;
- downloaded playback in airplane mode.
The 2026 report claimed that airplane mode produced more complete behavior than downloaded playback while online. This may bypass an online queue-generation path rather than repair the underlying problem, so it should not be treated as a guaranteed fix.
9. Update and reset the app
Update YouTube Music and the operating system, then force-close and reopen the app. On Android, clear the YouTube Music cache. Sign out and back in only after recording the original behavior, because doing so can make comparison harder. If only downloaded content is affected, remove and re-download the playlist.
10. Avoid casting when reliability matters
If testing shows that local or Bluetooth playback works but casting does not, use the working mode for long listening sessions. This is a practical workaround, not a confirmed repair to the cast queue.

Starting from a lower item in the playlist and other similar loading tricks have also been reported by users, but they should be judged by the same standard: the queue must continue beyond the former stopping point and represent substantially more of the playlist.

How to prove whether the problem is real
A randomized first song is not evidence of a complete shuffle. Use a repeatable test with a playlist of known size, ideally 300–600 tracks:
- Record the playlist’s displayed track count.
- Record the device, operating system, YouTube Music version, account type, and connection state.
- Note whether the playlist is downloaded.
- Record the cast target, if any.
- Turn Autoplay off and check Repeat.
- Start Shuffle play from the playlist overflow menu.
- Record the number of tracks initially shown in Up Next.
- Let playback continue or skip forward and note whether more tracks appear.
- Record duplicates, unavailable tracks, recommendations, repeats, and the point at which playback stops or changes.
- Repeat the test locally, through Bluetooth, and while casting.
For a stronger comparison, make a copy of the playlist or export its track list. This lets you distinguish genuine omissions from duplicate entries, unavailable videos, alternate versions, or songs that were already repeated in the source playlist.

- Unavailable tracks: regional rights, account status, or removed videos can prevent particular entries from playing.
- Duplicate entries: two identical songs in the playlist may be genuine duplicate items.
- Dynamic loading: YouTube Music may append more tracks only as playback approaches the end of the current queue.
- Autoplay: recommendations can be added after the playlist queue and may be mistaken for playlist continuation.
- Casting: the controller phone and receiver may not expose identical queue state.
- Offline snapshots: downloaded playback may use a cached version of the playlist rather than its current online contents.
- Playlist edits: adding or removing tracks may not modify a queue that was already created.
- Android Auto: the interface exposes fewer controls, making manual queue expansion difficult. Historical reports specifically include Android Auto among affected contexts.
“Large playlist” also has no current official Google definition in the cited documentation. Report the actual number of tracks instead of assuming a fixed threshold.
What recent YouTube Music improvements do not prove
Two changes are easy to confuse with a shuffle repair:
- Queue synchronization: reports about cross-device queue syncing describe synchronization, not complete shuffling of a 500-song playlist. The two features should be evaluated separately.
- Find in playlist: the newer navigation feature helps locate tracks in a large playlist; it does not itself fix queue construction or shuffle completeness.
Likewise, Premium is not established as either the cause or the solution. The current report was filed by a Premium user. Premium is relevant to downloads, background playback, and some account states, but subscribing or resubscribing should not be presented as a repair.

- playlist size and link, if appropriate;
- device model and operating system;
- YouTube Music app or web version;
- Premium or free account status;
- streaming, downloaded, or airplane-mode state;
- Bluetooth, local, cast, or Android Auto playback;
- cast receiver model, if relevant;
- Autoplay and Repeat settings;
- initial queue size and what happened as playback continued;
- screenshots and exact reproduction steps.
That information is more useful than reporting only that “shuffle is broken,” because it helps separate queue truncation, dynamic loading, casting synchronization, unavailable tracks, and poor shuffle variety.
When splitting the playlist is the sensible fallback
If no playback mode reliably reaches the full playlist, split it into smaller balanced playlists. This does not repair YouTube Music, but it reduces the amount of queue data each session must handle and makes failures easier to identify. For a must-play-completely session, local or Bluetooth playback is preferable when testing shows that casting is the trigger.
Moving to another service is an option only if complete long-playlist control is essential. Spotify or Apple Music may suit different ecosystems, but neither should be promised as an automatic answer without testing the exact playlist and shuffle behavior. Transfer tools such as TuneMyMusic and Soundiiz can help migrate playlists, but they cannot repair YouTube Music’s queue engine and may lose user-uploaded tracks, alternate versions, regionally unavailable songs, or metadata matches.

YouTube Music’s lengthy-playlist shuffle issue remains credible and currently reported, especially where casting or dynamically generated queues are involved. The evidence does not support claiming a universal 50-, 100-, or 200-song limit, nor does it prove that every user is affected.
The most useful sequence is to start from the playlist’s own Shuffle play menu, disable Autoplay while testing, compare local and cast playback, and test downloaded content both online and in airplane mode. If local or Bluetooth playback succeeds, use it as the least disruptive workaround. If every mode fails, splitting the playlist is the most predictable operational solution while the absence of a documented universal fix remains unchanged.
