What Live Redirect requires
Sender eligibility
YouTube says a creator sending a Live Redirect must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. Exactly 1,000 subscribers does not meet the stated “more than 1,000” threshold. See YouTube’s Live Redirect guidance.
Live access is a separate check
Being eligible to send a redirect is not the same as being eligible to livestream. YouTube separately requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days to go live. These are general livestream prerequisites, not the feature-specific sender test. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements and guidance on live-streaming restrictions.
Destination permission
For a redirect to another channel, that channel must allow yours to redirect to its content. Its owner can permit subscribed channels, all channels, or specifically approved channels. If permission is limited to subscribed channels, the relevant subscription must be public for that permission behavior to apply.

Fix a missing option or destination
- Check the sender channel. Confirm it has more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. If you cannot livestream at all, separately check channel verification and any live-streaming restrictions from the last 90 days.
- Ask the destination channel to review its settings. In YouTube Studio, go to Settings > Community and check who is allowed to redirect to its content. The destination owner may need to allow your channel directly, allow all channels, or use the subscribed-channel option with the relevant subscription public.
- Confirm there is an eligible target. Live Redirect can send viewers to a Premiere or another channel’s live stream. The target must be available for selection and permitted by the destination channel’s settings. If the creator is not live and has no eligible upcoming stream or Premiere, there may be nothing to select.
- Set the redirect on the source video. In YouTube Studio, open Content > Live, edit the source live video, choose Customization, and add a destination under Redirect. YouTube describes the audience move as occurring after the source stream ends, not as an instant switch while it is still running.
- Check the stream format. YouTube lists Live Redirect for horizontal live streams, not the vertical live feed. If redirect is essential, use a horizontal stream workflow. See YouTube’s feature availability comparison.
Does India have a separate restriction?
YouTube’s published Live Redirect requirements and permission guidance do not name India as an excluded geography or state a special India-only sender threshold. That means there is no published India-specific rule in this guidance; it is not a guarantee that every Indian account will have the option. Account eligibility, policy status, recipient permissions, target availability, and product changes can affect an individual channel.
A TeamYouTube employee documented a temporary issue with the subscriber-only setting in 2022 and later reported it restored. That historical incident is not evidence of a current India-wide outage. See the TeamYouTube Help Community post.

What will not fix Live Redirect
- Changing country settings or using a VPN: YouTube’s published troubleshooting points to eligibility, destination permissions, target availability, and stream format—not location changes.
- Buying streaming hardware: A webcam, capture card, router, or computer may help with broadcasting, but none grants Live Redirect eligibility or destination permission.
- Waiting for an instant transfer: The destination is selected in advance; YouTube says viewers move after the source stream ends.
