To run a YouTube channel around the clock, create a broadcast in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and connect an encoder such as OBS with the server URL and stream key YouTube provides. OBS runs on your own computer; a cloud service runs the encoder remotely. Either way, 24/7 is an intended schedule, not a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming—and a single broadcast longer than 12 hours may not be archived in full.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Check YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- A video or other programming you have the rights to stream, plus an encoder such as OBS or a cloud-hosted encoder.
- A stable connection from the encoder to YouTube. For ingest, YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure extension to RTMP. See YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance.
There is no universal OBS hardware specification here: the requirements depend on the actual scene, sources, resolution, frame rate and encoding workload. YouTube transcodes the incoming stream for different viewer devices and network conditions, but you still need to choose an encoder bitrate and output format appropriate to your stream. Check YouTube’s current settings guidance when configuring it; do not assume one bitrate fits every format.
Set up a YouTube encoder stream in Live Control Room
- Enable live streaming. Confirm the channel meets YouTube’s eligibility requirements before planning a broadcast.
- Create or schedule the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room, create a stream or schedule one, and set its title, description, privacy and other details. Follow YouTube’s streaming setup instructions.
- Connect the encoder. In OBS, select YouTube as the streaming service if available. Otherwise, enter the server URL and stream key shown by YouTube. Treat the key like a password: do not share it, and reset it if it is exposed. Prefer RTMPS when configuring the ingest connection.
- Set output and start the encoder. Choose resolution, frame rate and bitrate in OBS using YouTube’s current guidance and the needs of the video. Start streaming from OBS.
- Confirm the broadcast in Studio. For a scheduled encoder stream, wait for the preview to appear in Live Control Room, then select Go live there. Keep Live Control Room open to check stream health and available real-time analytics. YouTube describes these indicators at its stream-health and analytics help page.
- End it cleanly. Stop sending from OBS, then end the broadcast in Studio. If a replay matters, keep a local recording as a backup and plan session lengths around YouTube’s archive guidance below.
OBS on your computer or an encoder in the cloud?
The key difference is where the encoder runs. With OBS on a local computer, the machine, its power, internet connection and running OBS process all need to keep working. Cloud hosting removes the need to leave that computer running after setup, but puts the stream’s continuity, configuration and potentially data-transfer costs in the hands of a provider. Verify the provider’s region, restart behavior, monitoring, support, bandwidth charges and terms; no general claim about a cloud host’s reliability or India availability follows from the deployment model alone.

Choose local OBS if your equipment and operating environment meet the stream’s needs and someone can monitor them. Consider cloud hosting if leaving a computer on is impractical, but compare the actual workload and full costs rather than just the headline hosting rate. For a fair comparison, use the same source material, resolution, frame rate, audio and expected schedule.

Plan for replays, DVR and monitoring
Keep archive expectations realistic
YouTube says it can automatically archive live streams shorter than 12 hours; a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. A continuous 24-hour broadcast therefore is not a dependable way to create one complete replay. If an archive is important, divide programming into sessions under 12 hours and retain a local recording backup. Read YouTube’s archive guidance.

Tell viewers what rewind they can expect
For streams longer than 12 hours, DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable. YouTube explains this limitation in its live DVR guidance.
Watch stream health while it runs
Live Control Room reports stream health, status and error messages, alongside real-time measures such as concurrent viewers, duration, chat rate, views and average view duration. These help you spot ingest trouble and see audience activity; they do not prove every viewer’s connection is receiving the stream without problems.

Copyright and monetization for a 24/7 stream
Clear rights for everything you broadcast
YouTube’s live-stream terms require the creator to have the necessary rights to exploit the live content on Google services worldwide, including applicable music rights, and to comply with relevant laws. Do not assume that a recording is safe to loop just because it is already online or because a livestream is non-interactive. Review YouTube’s live-stream terms and requirements.
Do not treat continuous play as monetization eligibility
A 24/7 schedule does not by itself qualify a channel or its content for monetization. YouTube says its monetization policies apply to live streams and that content should be original and authentic; repetitive or mass-produced programming may be ineligible. Assess the actual material and the channel’s status against YouTube’s channel monetization policies.

Eligible channels may be able to use live ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, or memberships, subject to feature availability and settings. Troubleshoot common 24/7 stream problems
The stream does not appear in Live Control Room
- Confirm OBS is sending to the server URL and stream key shown for the intended YouTube broadcast.
- Check that the encoder has started and that the key has not been reset or copied incorrectly. If it may have been exposed, reset it in YouTube and update OBS.
- For a scheduled broadcast, wait for the encoder preview and select Go live in Studio; starting OBS alone may not start the scheduled event.
The stream stops or becomes unstable
- Check Live Control Room’s stream-health status and error messages to identify an ingest issue.
- For local OBS, check whether the computer slept, lost power or internet, or stopped the encoder process. Recovery requires restarting the encoder and restoring the connection.
- For cloud hosting, check the service’s logs, restart and recovery settings, region and network-transfer terms. Recovery behavior is provider-specific.
The archive is missing or incomplete
A broadcast over 12 hours may not be captured at all. For important replays, use sessions shorter than 12 hours and keep a local recording backup rather than relying on one uninterrupted 24-hour archive.
Viewers report that they cannot rewind
Long broadcasts can have limited or unavailable DVR rewind beyond 12 hours. If rewind matters to the audience, communicate session boundaries and make replays available separately where appropriate.
Cost and operating choice for creators in India
With local OBS, account for electricity and the equipment’s use as well as your existing internet service. With a general cloud host, include compute or service charges and possible storage and data-transfer costs, and check whether the region and terms suit your stream. Do not compare a home setup’s incremental costs with a cloud service’s base rate while ignoring egress, persistence or restart needs.
