If your YouTube 24/7 stream keeps disconnecting, first find out whether the encoder is losing its connection to YouTube or whether viewers are having playback trouble. Check the encoder’s output and YouTube Live Control Room health messages, then test your real outbound upload capacity. YouTube’s guidance recommends about 20% upload headroom above the stream’s total bitrate; if you cannot maintain it, lower the bitrate or resolution. The sources available here offer general YouTube troubleshooting, not evidence that Indian internet connections have a unique or widespread disconnection problem.
First identify what is actually disconnecting
A viewer’s buffering is not necessarily a failed broadcast. Compare what the encoder reports with what viewers experience, and note the time of any interruption. YouTube Live Control Room shows stream-health status and error messages; use those messages and their timestamps to check whether a drop coincides with an ingestion or stream-configuration warning.
- The encoder reports a dropped connection: investigate the encoder’s connection to YouTube and the outbound connection from the streaming computer.
- One viewer reports trouble: the issue may be on that viewer’s device or internet connection.
- Several viewers on one shared connection report trouble: that network may be the common factor.
- Viewers on separate connections report trouble: investigate the encoder and the stream itself as well as the network.
YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance distinguishes viewer playback problems from issues with the creator’s encoder or internet connection. A report from viewers alone does not establish that the stream has stopped at its source.
Check the encoder before blaming the ISP
Look at the encoder’s connection status, error messages, and CPU load around the time of the failure. Check that its local preview or recording has healthy video and audio. If the local output is faulty, troubleshoot the encoder, its software, or its audio and video inputs before treating the problem as an internet fault. Updating the encoder software is also a reasonable diagnostic step.

Keep the exact time of each drop and any error text. Then compare it with the health messages in Live Control Room. A warning about bitrate, codec, audio format, keyframes, stream dimensions, or primary/backup settings points to a configuration issue to investigate rather than a general connection-speed problem.
Measure upload capacity under normal use
For a live stream, outbound upload capacity matters: download speed does not tell you how much data the encoder can reliably send. Measure upload while the connection is being used as it normally is, including by other people and devices. YouTube notes that shared use can reduce the bandwidth available to an individual stream, and recommends leaving roughly 20% of upload capacity beyond the total stream bitrate. As YouTube Help puts it, “The total bitrate you’re streaming cannot exceed the amount of upload bandwidth available.”

For example, a stream sending a total of 8 Mbps in video and audio needs more than 8 Mbps of usable upload capacity; applying YouTube’s approximate 20% headroom guidance means allowing about 9.6 Mbps before accounting for other traffic or variation. This is a planning calculation, not a guarantee that a connection will remain stable. If your measured capacity falls short in normal conditions, reduce stream bitrate or resolution until it fits with headroom.
Match encoder settings to the stream
Use the recommendation for the selected codec, resolution, and frame rate rather than assuming one bitrate fits every configuration. YouTube’s current H.264 recommendations include:

These are YouTube recommendations for H.264, not measurements of Indian ISP performance or universal targets for other codecs and frame rates. YouTube lists different recommended bitrates for AV1 and H.265, so consult its settings for the codec you actually use. If the connection cannot sustain the chosen setting with headroom, lower the bitrate or resolution rather than relying on a download-speed result.
- Rate control: use CBR, as YouTube recommends.
- Keyframes: set a two-second interval; YouTube says not to exceed four seconds.
- Ingest protocol: YouTube recommends RTMPS.
Make changes in the encoder and then check Live Control Room for updated health messages. Avoid changing several unrelated settings at once: a targeted change makes it easier to see whether a bitrate, format, or keyframe warning has cleared.

Isolate Wi-Fi and test backup configurations
If the encoder is using Wi-Fi, try a wired Ethernet connection as a diagnostic comparison. This reduces dependence on Wi-Fi signal conditions, but it does not prove the ISP is at fault or guarantee a fix. A suitable Cat 6 cable can be used for this test; the cable itself cannot resolve a problem elsewhere in the internet connection.
If you use a backup encoder, verify that its settings match the primary stream. YouTube says the primary and backup streams need matching settings for failover. Test the setup deliberately by stopping the primary encoder or unplugging its Ethernet cable, as YouTube’s streaming tips recommend, and confirm that the backup takes over as expected.

When to contact your ISP
If the encoder’s local output is healthy but upload or connectivity testing shows a problem, share the test results and the times of the interruptions with your ISP. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance recommends contacting the ISP when internet testing identifies a problem. Ask about the upload performance and stability available at your address; do not assume that an Indian provider, plan, or mobile network is responsible without checking the actual connection.
The cited YouTube guidance is general, not a published measure of how often Indian connections interrupt 24/7 streams. ISP performance, upload rates, and backup options need to be verified for your location and service.
