YouTube 24/7 Live Stream With a Playlist: OBS or a Cloud Service?

Run a prerecorded playlist on YouTube Live with OBS on a computer or a cloud service. Compare the trade-offs and plan for eligibility, rights, stream monitoring, and replay limits.

You can run a prerecorded playlist on YouTube Live with OBS on a computer or with a cloud service. OBS gives you local control, but the computer and its internet connection must keep working. A cloud service can keep sending your uploaded videos after you turn your computer off. Either way, YouTube still receives an encoder feed, and you remain responsible for stream setup, content rights, and planning for a broadcast that may not be archived in full.

OBS or cloud: which should you choose?

What matters OBS on your computer Cloud playlist service
What stays online Your computer, OBS, and internet connection must remain available for the broadcast. The provider runs the stream from its cloud; your personal computer does not need to stay online. This is a vendor-described operating model, not a comparative reliability test. Looping Stream
Who operates the broadcast You manage the computer, playlist, connection, monitoring, and recovery. The provider handles some broadcasting operations. You still need a valid YouTube stream key, working source files, and a functioning YouTube ingest.
Encoder connection OBS connects to YouTube using the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance Connect the provider to your YouTube destination using the setup flow it offers; details vary by service.
Rights and YouTube enforcement Using OBS does not change copyright obligations or YouTube’s matching enforcement. Using a cloud encoder does not change copyright obligations or YouTube’s matching enforcement.
Best fit You want direct control, have a computer and stable upload connection, and can supervise the stream. You want an uploaded playlist to keep running without leaving your own computer on.

YouTube’s encoder documentation lists Gyre as a cloud tool for continuous streams of prerecorded videos. YouTube’s listing is not an endorsement or a comparison of current prices, quality, or reliability. See YouTube’s encoder options.

Check eligibility before preparing a 24/7 stream

  • Your channel must be verified and have no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube says first-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until the day you plan to launch. YouTube also requires a streamer to be at least 16 years old. YouTube: Get started with live streaming
  • Use content for which you have the necessary rights, including music rights. A license does not necessarily prevent an interruption if the rights owner has not allowlisted your channel in Content ID.
  • Decide whether you need a replay archive. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube: Archive live streams

Set up a prerecorded playlist with OBS

This route makes your computer the encoder. The exact OBS controls for playlist playback depend on how you supply the media to OBS; the essential YouTube connection is the stream URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room.

  1. Enable live streaming. Verify your channel and enable the feature early enough for YouTube’s activation window. Check Live Control Room for any channel-specific restrictions before building the schedule.
  2. Prepare the playlist. Put the video files in the order you want them played and check that each file has usable audio and video. Confirm you have rights to every item, including music and third-party footage. If licensed material may be matched by Content ID, ask the rights owner whether your channel needs to be allowlisted.
  3. Create or select the YouTube stream. Open Live Control Room and use the stream URL and key presented for the broadcast. Treat the key as a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not control the stream. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube and update OBS.
  4. Connect OBS to YouTube. In OBS, configure the stream destination with the YouTube server/stream URL and key. Add your playlist playback source using the method appropriate to your media workflow, then confirm the intended order and that playback advances as expected.
  5. Test the full path before going live. Start a test or preview, confirm that YouTube receives the picture and sound, and check that the playlist transitions correctly. YouTube recommends previewing in Live Control Room and monitoring stream quality. YouTube: Streaming tips
  6. Keep the system operating. Leave OBS running, prevent the computer from sleeping or restarting, and keep the upload connection available. You are responsible for noticing a stalled playlist, software failure, network interruption, or YouTube disconnect and recovering the broadcast.

Bandwidth, monitoring, and recovery

For a local OBS stream, the computer’s upload connection must sustain the encoder’s total bitrate. YouTube recommends leaving 20% of available upload bandwidth beyond the stream bitrate; a connection that only just meets the encoder bitrate leaves no headroom for fluctuations. • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  • Watch Live Control Room for stream health and confirm both audio and video are reaching YouTube.
  • Keep local copies of source files if a damaged or unavailable file would disrupt the playlist.
  • Plan who will respond if the computer, OBS, router, or internet connection fails. A locally encoded stream depends on all of them.
  • Do not assume a cloud provider eliminates YouTube-side interruptions, a wrong key, or problems with the uploaded files. Cloud operation changes where encoding runs; it does not remove every failure point.

Copyright and live-stream interruptions

YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted material in another live broadcast. If it detects a match, YouTube may replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate the broadcast. YouTube: Copyright issues with live streams

Before scheduling a playlist, verify rights for every video and music track. If you rely on a license, confirm whether the rights owner must allowlist your channel in Content ID; possessing a license alone may not stop automated matching from disrupting the live feed. YouTube’s livestream terms also apply to the content and conduct of the broadcast. YouTube: Livestream terms and conditions

Plan separately for replay and archive

A continuous 24/7 broadcast is not a dependable way to preserve a complete replay. YouTube says that streams over 12 hours may not be captured at all, and DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for very long streams. If viewers or your editorial workflow need a replay, create a separate recording/archive plan or consider whether shorter broadcasts fit the need. YouTube’s archive guidance
