Jon Watts gives their old-school movie-star chemistry a sleek New York caper to play in; the plot, however, grows more tangled than the pairing needs.
What is Wolfs about?
Clooney plays Jack, a professional fixer hired to cover up a high-profile crime. Pitt is Nick, another fixer brought in for the same incident. The two men prefer working alone, but the job leaves them no choice but to cooperate—and their cleanup night spirals beyond its neat original plan. Apple’s US listing describes the incident as a prominent New York official’s misstep.
Amy Ryan plays Margaret, Austin Abrams is the Kid, Poorna Jagannathan plays June, Zlatko Burić is Dimitri, and Richard Kind appears as the Kid’s Dad. Watts wrote and directed the film; its production partners include Apple Original Films, Clooney’s Smokehouse Pictures, and Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment.
Do Clooney and Pitt make the pairing work?
Yes. The film’s chief pleasure is watching two performers who know exactly how to project competence—and how to let a flicker of irritation puncture it. Jack and Nick are capable, guarded professionals, so their rivalry plays out in timing, pauses, and small contests over who gets to take charge rather than in grand speeches. The stars’ familiarity with one another gives that sparring an easy rhythm.

That chemistry is the movie’s strongest argument for its throwback caper style. The Associated Press’s Jake Coyle described Wolfs as a sleek New York caper built around two fixers hired for the same cleanup job, and said it is “designed to show you that they can still, without ever really breaking a sweat, get the job done.” That is a critic’s reading of the film’s appeal, but it captures the relaxed confidence the leads bring to the screen.
Does the cleanup-job plot keep up?
Only intermittently. The first pleasure is simple: two lone-wolf specialists must share a problem and negotiate how to solve it. As the night accumulates complications and reversals, the film leans harder on familiar fixer-movie machinery. The escalating twists can make the story feel busy where the central relationship works best when it has room to breathe.

That tension explains why the response has been divided. Rotten Tomatoes’ critics consensus calls the film a “pleasing and slick throwback,” while also noting its fixer-genre clichés. Its audience summary is more skeptical of the script even as it credits the stars’ charisma, and the page includes varied individual reactions. Le Monde’s October 2, 2024 review likewise recognized the elaborate overnight partnership but argued that the succession of twists becomes exhausting. These are different critical perspectives, not a unanimous verdict: the appeal of the leads is easier to agree on than the freshness or momentum of the writing.
Where can you watch Wolfs?
Wolfs had a limited theatrical release on September 20, 2024, then debuted globally on Apple TV+ on September 27, 2024, according to Apple’s release announcement. Apple’s US listing offers the film on Apple TV. Sony’s distributor page also lists digital routes including Apple TV, Prime Video, Fandango, Verizon Fios, and YouTube. Availability and whether a service offers subscription access, rental, or purchase can vary by country and change over time; check the terms shown in your territory.

Apple’s US listing gives the runtime as 1 hour 47 minutes and the rating as R for language throughout and some violent content. Rating classifications differ by region.

If the prospect of Clooney and Pitt volleying dry humor across a stylish crime caper sounds appealing, Wolfs delivers enough of that pleasure to make it an easy recommendation for a relaxed movie night. Go in for the chemistry rather than a particularly original or tightly escalating thriller: the performances remain the attraction even when the plot’s twists crowd the room.
