Thunderbolts* brings together a team of Marvel characters who are better known for operating outside the traditional hero mold. The official Marvel trailer listing identifies its April 16, 2025 upload as the final trailer and promotes the film’s U.S. theatrical release on May 2, 2025. Here’s who makes up the ensemble—and what the official material establishes about the movie.
What is Thunderbolts* about?
Marvel Studios describes Thunderbolts* as an ensemble film centered on an unconventional group of antiheroes. That premise distinguishes the team from a straightforward lineup of established, uniformly heroic Avengers, but it does not by itself reveal how the characters’ story ends or what they accomplish together. Disney’s official film page lists the movie’s cast and synopsis.
The U.S. theatrical release date was May 2, 2025. Dates can differ by market: Disney’s international pages may list local release dates, so use the date for the relevant country when discussing a regional release.
Who are the Thunderbolts?
Disney’s central roster includes six characters: Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster, and John Walker. They arrive with different histories and identities, making the team’s unusual mix a useful starting point for understanding the film.

Yelena Belova

Bucky Barnes
Bucky Barnes, also known as the Winter Soldier, is another member of the roster. His history as a soldier and former brainwashed assassin gives him a markedly different background from a conventional, uncomplicated hero.

Ghost
Ghost, played by Hannah John-Kamen, brings a different kind of capability to the ensemble. The character guide names her among the film’s central figures, but the roster alone does not establish what role she plays in the group’s mission.

The official listing and its description establish the trailer’s status and promotional framing, but do not provide a reliable written record of individual shots or dialogue. A scene-by-scene account should therefore be based on the trailer itself, with on-screen events described separately from interpretation. A dramatic edit, a character’s reaction, or ominous imagery can suggest danger without proving a plot outcome.
