What did Cody Rhodes say about The Rock?
On the June 24, 2026 episode of the Ariel Helwani Show, Rhodes described Dwayne Johnson, known to WWE fans as The Rock, as a fixture in his career and said their story remained unfinished. He also qualified that thought: “I don’t want to give it an absolute and say that we do have to settle that. Rhodes outlined two broad possibilities. He could honor Johnson through his own success in Hollywood, or Johnson could return to active wrestling and continue the story in a way Rhodes said might be more satisfying to wrestling fans. Those were possibilities, not announced WWE booking plans.
Does the hint mean The Rock will wrestle Rhodes at WrestleMania?
No. Rhodes did not confirm a match, say one was scheduled, or insist the story must end in the ring. The June remarks are a reason fans may speculate about another chapter, but they do not establish that The Rock will appear at a future WrestleMania or face Rhodes there.

Rhodes also cautioned against misleading teases or leaks about a possible appearance. “I can say as a wrestler, we get a little trepidacious, or we don’t get super excited when people tease he might be there or leak it, or drop something that’s misleading,” he said. His point was about the effect of inaccurate appearance hints on wrestlers carrying WWE’s active stories—not confirmation that Johnson was due to return.

WrestleMania 40
The Rock was central to Rhodes’s story around WrestleMania 40. Sports Illustrated’s account says Rhodes gave Johnson his earned title opportunity on SmackDown before plans shifted amid fan reaction. At the event, The Rock and Roman Reigns faced Rhodes and Seth Rollins on night one; Rhodes then defeated Reigns on night two. That history helps explain why Rhodes calls the connection significant, but it does not establish a future match.

The WrestleMania 41 “soul” storyline
During the 2025 build to WrestleMania 41, The Rock asked Rhodes for his “soul.” Rhodes refused, and John Cena joined The Rock in the storyline before facing Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 41. (Wrestling Inc.)
On June 5, 2026, Rhodes said of that lingering angle, “I don’t know if it’s still on the line. He appears when he appears.” The comment addressed the unresolved “soul” story, not a scheduled WrestleMania match.

Do Rhodes’s later “soul” comments change the answer?
No. In a September 18, 2026 interview with Simone Johnson, Rhodes recalled that he had once thought it would be funny to give his “soul” to her character rather than to The Rock: “When the Final Boss asked me for my soul, I thought, you know what would’ve been funny, is to relent and give my soul, but not to him.” He also said he was open to character directions. This was a retrospective alternative for the earlier storyline, not a new match announcement. (PWTorch)
