T-Mobile’s “Netflix on Us” benefit does not make every Netflix plan free. For eligible U.S. plans, it covers Netflix Standard with ads; if you choose Standard without ads or Premium, you pay the applicable upgrade charge through T-Mobile. The precise amount depends on your account and billing details, so check the Netflix line item rather than assuming a fixed increase.
What T-Mobile covers—and what it doesn’t
T-Mobile currently describes its included Netflix benefit as Standard with ads, valued at up to $8.99 per month, for eligible plans. Customers who select a higher Netflix tier pay the difference through their T-Mobile bill. Eligibility depends on the T-Mobile plan and, for some plans, the number of lines; not every T-Mobile customer qualifies. See T-Mobile’s Netflix on Us page and its Netflix on Us support details.
Netflix’s U.S. Help Center lists these monthly prices: Standard with ads, $8.99; Standard, $19.99; and Premium, $26.99. Comparing those retail prices gives a rough pre-tax difference of about $11 for Standard or $18 for Premium above the included tier. But that is not a guaranteed T-Mobile charge: T-Mobile advertises a discounted Premium upgrade at $20, and account-specific pricing, credits, promotions, taxes, or prorated billing can change the amount. Treat the price displayed in My T-Mobile and on your bill as authoritative. Netflix’s plan and pricing information notes that package pricing and extra-member eligibility can vary.

These are reference figures, not a promise about an individual bill. Older T-Mobile plans may have different eligibility or credits, and a separate Netflix subscription added to another line may be charged differently from an upgrade to the included account.

Why the bill may have increased
A higher Netflix charge is not necessarily a change to your T-Mobile wireless plan. Check for one of these explanations:
- The Netflix tier was upgraded. Standard without ads and Premium cost more than the included Standard with ads tier. You or another person in the household with access to the Netflix account may have changed it; Netflix says an upgrade can lead to a higher bill. Netflix’s guidance on unexpected charges also covers promotions that expire.
- Netflix prices changed. T-Mobile says updated Netflix prices began appearing for affected customers with May 2026 bill cycles. An existing upgrade may therefore cost more even if nobody changed tiers. Check T-Mobile’s current billing explanation.
- A separate paid Netflix subscription was added. The included benefit is tied to a designated line and Netflix account. Another line or account may have a full paid add-on rather than the included benefit or an upgrade. T-Mobile supports account-level and line-level arrangements, so check which line redeemed the benefit and which email address was linked.
- Billing is transferring from Netflix to T-Mobile. Existing Netflix customers may take one or two Netflix billing cycles to move to T-Mobile billing. During that transition, charges can appear in different cycles. Confirm the payment provider shown in Netflix before disputing what looks like a duplicate charge.
- The change happened mid-cycle. A newly added benefit or plan change can produce a prorated charge or credit. Taxes and billing timing can also make the first amount differ from a normal monthly charge.
- A promotion ended or an extra member was added. Promotional rates can expire. Extra-member charges are separate from the main plan price and may not be available with an ad-supported plan or some third-party-billed packages. Review the Netflix account’s membership and extra-member settings; see Netflix’s extra-member guidance.
Audit the charge before changing anything
- Sign in to My T-Mobile or the T-Life app. Open the account’s benefits, services, or add-ons area and select Netflix. App labels can change; look for the active Netflix benefit and selected tier.
- Open the detailed T-Mobile bill, not just the total due. Find the Netflix line item or upgrade charge and note the amount, billing period, and any credit or proration.
- Open Netflix’s Account or Membership section. Confirm the active plan, the email address on the account, and whether T-Mobile or Netflix is listed as the payment provider.
- Check who redeemed the T-Mobile benefit and which line it is attached to. Ask household members whether anyone changed the tier, added an extra member, or linked a different Netflix account.
If both Netflix and T-Mobile appear to have charged you, first compare the service periods and payment-provider status. A transfer can take one or two Netflix billing cycles, and the timing may not line up neatly with your T-Mobile cycle. If the overlap continues after the transfer or the account details do not match, contact the provider shown as responsible for that charge.

What you give up by downgrading
Standard with ads can bring the recurring Netflix upgrade charge to zero when it is included in your eligible T-Mobile plan. It includes ads, and some titles may be unavailable because of licensing restrictions. Netflix says some older devices do not support the ad tier, and mobile-to-TV casting or mirroring is unavailable on that experience. Check title availability information and device and casting limitations if those matter to you.
Standard is ad-free, with 1080p resolution and up to two simultaneous supported devices. Premium is ad-free and supports up to four simultaneous devices, 4K Ultra HD and HDR, and downloads on up to six supported devices. Netflix lists extra-member slots for Standard and Premium, but whether they are available depends on package rules; extra members are not available on the ad-supported tier. Keeping an upgrade may make sense if your household needs ad-free viewing, more simultaneous streams, 4K/HDR, or more downloads. If you mainly want Netflix included and can live with ads and the tier’s limitations, downgrading is the straightforward way to avoid the upgrade charge.
How to return to the included tier
Use the Netflix account page or the Netflix controls provided through T-Mobile and choose Change plan, then select Standard with ads if it is offered for your package. Confirm the change and check the next T-Mobile bill to see whether the upgrade charge has stopped. Netflix says package plan changes take effect immediately, while the provider determines the amount on the next bill; you may need to wait 12 hours before making another plan change. If the included tier is not offered, confirm that you are the T-Mobile primary account holder or an authorized user, that Netflix is billed through T-Mobile, and that the correct line and Netflix email are linked. Ask T-Mobile to verify the account’s eligibility and available options. Do not remove or cancel the Netflix benefit before checking how the payment method will change: when T-Mobile stops paying, Netflix may require another valid payment method to avoid an interruption. When Premium is—and isn’t—worth paying for
Premium is a choice, not an automatic bargain simply because T-Mobile offers a discounted upgrade. Consider whether you have a compatible 4K/HDR setup, regularly watch on more than two devices at once, need the larger download allowance, or rely on extra-member options supported by your package. If not, the extra cost may buy features your household rarely uses. Compare the amount actually shown in your account with the Standard with ads option before deciding.
