The Bachelorette skipped its usual summer 2025 season, and ABC did not publicly explain the pause in contemporaneous coverage. A later plan to bring the show back in 2026 also fell through: ABC canceled the already-filmed season before its scheduled premiere. Those are separate decisions, and the reported reason for the 2026 cancellation does not explain the 2025 pause.
Why did The Bachelorette skip summer 2025?
There was no season 22 in the show’s usual July 2025 slot. Reports at the time said ABC had not publicly given a reason for skipping the cycle or set a return date. TheWrap reported the pause on February 7, 2025, and TVLine reported the next day that the reason was not known.

A story that the pause followed unsuccessful negotiations with former contestant Maria Georgas circulated through Bachelor Nation podcast hosts, who attributed it to an unnamed production source. It was not a confirmed explanation from ABC. NJ.com’s report likewise noted the absence of an official reason and treated the account as speculation.
Was the show canceled, or just delayed?
In 2025, the show had skipped a cycle; that alone was not an announcement that the franchise was permanently canceled. ABC later listed season 22 for 2026, with Taylor Frankie Paul as lead, on ABC and Hulu. That was a plan, not a season that ultimately aired. ABC’s 2025 season announcement was superseded when the network canceled the filmed season before its scheduled March 22, 2026 premiere.

Why was the 2026 season canceled?
The later cancellation had a publicly reported explanation, distinct from the unexplained 2025 schedule pause. The Associated Press reported on March 19, 2026, that Disney Entertainment Television said: “In light of the newly released video just surfaced today, we have made the decision to not move forward with the new season of ‘The Bachelorette’ at this time, and our focus is on supporting the family.” The statement referred to the newly released video and the decision not to proceed with that season; it does not establish why ABC skipped summer 2025. The AP report covered the cancellation.
Did ratings explain the 2025 pause?
No source cited for the pause establishes ratings as its cause. TVLine reported that the 2024 season averaged 2.5 million total viewers and a 0.4 rating among adults 18–49 in Live+Same Day figures, matching summer 2023. Those numbers offer audience context, not evidence of ABC’s reason for changing the schedule.

Is the canceled season streaming on Hulu?
ABC’s season 22 announcement named Hulu as the planned streaming outlet. Because the season was canceled before airing, that announcement does not establish that episodes are available there now.
