Sheinelle Jones said she was taking time away from NBC’s Today to deal with a “family health matter.” TVLine reported on January 15, 2025, that she had been absent from the show since December 18, 2024. Jones did not say whom the matter involved or disclose further details.
What Sheinelle Jones said about her absence
In a January 15, 2025 report, TVLine quoted Jones’s Instagram post: “I sincerely appreciate all of you who have reached out while I’ve been absent from the show. I want to share with you that I’m taking time to deal with a family health matter.”
That phrase is the explanation Jones chose to share. She did not identify the family member or describe the health matter, so claims about a specific person, diagnosis, or private circumstance are not established by her statement. TVLine’s January 15, 2025 report also said her absence from the program had begun on December 18, 2024.
How the 2026 absence differs
A separate absence was reported on June 15, 2026. TV Insider said Jones was delayed in Chicago by weather-related travel disruptions and discussed the delay on the following day’s broadcast. That was a later travel issue, not an explanation for the family-health leave reported in 2025. TV Insider’s June 2026 report covers that incident.
