Twitch permanently banned Guy Beahm, the streamer known as Dr Disrespect, in June 2020 without publicly giving a specific reason. In June 2024, two former Twitch employees were reported to connect the ban to messages with a minor on Twitch’s Whispers service. Beahm acknowledged that messages took place in 2017, but disputed the alleged intent and denied criminal conduct. The full exchanges and their context have not been independently established in the public reporting cited here.
Why was Dr Disrespect banned from Twitch?
Twitch did not publicly disclose the specific reason for Beahm’s permanent ban in June 2020. At the time, the company said generally that it takes appropriate action when it has evidence that a streamer violated its Community Guidelines or Terms of Service; that statement did not confirm a particular allegation in Beahm’s case. PC Gamer reported on Twitch’s statement and the uncertainty around the ban.
Four years later, a public allegation by former Twitch strategic partnerships team member Cody Conners and a second, anonymous former employee’s account reported by Tech Times connected the ban to Whispers messages with a minor. Those accounts are allegations, not a public reproduction of the messages or an independently established account of their full content and context.
What did the two former Twitch employees say?
Cody Conners’s public allegation
Conners alleged that Beahm was banned after Twitch caught him having an inappropriate and sexual conversation with a minor through Whispers. PC Gamer reported that Conners did not name Beahm in his post, though readers widely understood the allegation to refer to him. PC Gamer’s June 24, 2024 report records the post and the uncertainty surrounding the claim.

The anonymous former Trust and Safety employee
Tech Times reported that a former member of Twitch’s Trust and Safety team, who requested anonymity because of possible career repercussions, described Beahm communicating with a minor through Whispers and discussing a possible meeting at TwitchCon. The employee reportedly said there was a gap between the messages and a moderation report, but could not recall how long. According to the account, Twitch investigated after receiving the report in 2020 and then banned Beahm’s channel. This is the employee’s reported account, not an independently reproduced record of the messages. Tech Times published the account on June 24, 2024.
What did Dr Disrespect acknowledge and deny?
In a statement published June 25, 2024, Beahm acknowledged that he exchanged Whispers messages with a minor in 2017. He characterized the exchanges as casual and mutual, saying some conversations “sometimes leaned too much in the direction of being inappropriate.” He said he had no real intentions, never met the individual, and that nothing illegal happened. He also accepted moral responsibility for engaging in the conversations, writing: “I should have never entertained these conversations to begin with.” The Washington Post reported his statement and response; TweakTown reproduced the statement.

His acknowledgement confirms that he says messages with a minor occurred and that he considers some of the conversations inappropriate. Beahm disputed improper intent and denied criminal conduct; the cited public reporting does not settle those disputed points.
How the ban and allegations unfolded
- June 2020: Twitch permanently banned Beahm without publicly naming a specific cause. Its contemporaneous statement described its general response to evidence of policy violations, not the details of this case.
- After the ban: Beahm initially said he did not know why Twitch had banned him, then later acknowledged he had been informed. He sued Twitch; the civil dispute was settled in 2022, with neither party admitting wrongdoing. The settlement did not publicly establish the ban’s cause. PC Gamer and The Washington Post reported on the dispute and settlement.
- June 24, 2024: Conners’s allegation became public, and Tech Times reported the account of a second, anonymous former Twitch employee.
- June 25, 2024: Beahm issued his public response, acknowledging the messages while disputing their alleged intent.
What remains unresolved in the public reporting?
The cited reports do not publish the full messages or independently establish their complete context, intent, or every detail of the former employees’ accounts. Twitch’s 2020 statement did not explain the specific reason for the ban, and the 2022 settlement did not resolve that question publicly. The distinction matters: Beahm’s acknowledgement is his own account, while the more specific descriptions of the exchanges and Twitch’s investigation come from former employees as reported by news outlets.
