What was Charlie Sheen returning to?
Sheen appeared as himself in two episodes of Bookie, the comedy series created by Chuck Lorre and Nick Bakay, with Sebastian Maniscalco starring. The 2023 interview framed the part as a guest appearance, not a regular role or a full-time return to television. Sheen told PEOPLE he was open to further roles at the time, while making no prediction about what the appearance would lead to.

What did Sheen mean by “surreal”?
Sheen described the return as a striking reversal: after a period focused on sobriety, parenting, and a predictable routine, he was acting again on a show created by Lorre, with whom he had a highly public rupture. He said the feeling brought to mind sportscaster Al Michaels’s famous hockey call: “Do you believe in miracles?!” The comparison was Sheen’s personal way of describing the moment, not a claim about the production itself.
He also recalled Lorre reaching out to make peace and remember their past work together. In Sheen’s account, Lorre said it was time to “bury the hatchet” and “remember the great stuff that we did together.” That reconciliation story comes from Sheen’s interview; it should not be mistaken for an independently documented account of Lorre’s motives.

What did “possession” refer to?
In the interview, Sheen used “possession” as his own metaphor for his past problems with drugs and alcohol. It was not presented as a clinical diagnosis. He discussed sobriety in the context of his life during that period, so his remarks describe what he said in 2023 rather than establishing his present health or circumstances.
Sheen also recalled a separate earlier moment: after winning a Golden Globe for Spin City, he described the experience as “a sober acid trip.” That phrase referred to his memory of the awards moment, not to filming Bookie.

How did the return continue after the 2023 interview?
Warner Bros. Discovery’s November 14, 2024 announcement listed Sheen among the guest stars for Bookie Season 2. The company said the eight-episode season would premiere on Max on December 12, 2024, with weekly episodes through a January 30, 2025 finale. Those are the dates and platform in the original announcement; they do not establish current availability in every territory.
The later Season 2 listing confirms that Sheen’s return extended beyond the two-episode appearance discussed in 2023. It does not turn that guest role into a regular or lead part, or establish a broader acting commitment.

What Sheen said about what might come next
In 2023, Sheen said he was ready for more roles but avoided setting expectations for what would follow. “All I can control is my reaction to things, which in and of itself is a daily battle,” he told PEOPLE. The comment captures his outlook in that interview, not a current statement about his plans.
For later context, the Associated Press reported in September 2025 on Sheen’s memoir, The Book of Sheen, and an event where he discussed his career, recovery, fatherhood, and writing process. That coverage is separate from his 2023 comments about Bookie.
