The description for the podcast The Clearing says her call led to Edwards’s arrest and eventual conviction on multiple murders. That is the show’s account of the timeline—not proof that Balascio alone solved the cases or established his guilt.
Who turned in Edward Edwards?
It was his daughter, April Balascio. An Inside Edition video listing frames the story as a daughter who suspected her father of being a serial killer and turned him in, but the listing is not a transcript and does not provide Balascio’s own words. Inside Edition’s video listing identifies Edwards as her father.
What is known about her report?
The Apple Podcasts description for The Clearing says Balascio called a detective in 2009 to report her suspicions. It describes the call as leading to Edwards’s arrest and eventual conviction on multiple murders. The description does not give a detailed investigative chronology or an exact conviction count, so those details should not be inferred from it. Apple Podcasts’ series description is the source for that account.
The distinction matters: reporting a suspicion can bring investigators’ attention to a person, but the available descriptions do not establish that Balascio’s tip alone proved Edwards’s guilt or resolved every case attributed to him.

How does The Clearing tell the story?
The podcast presents more than the moment of the report. Its description follows Balascio’s effort to revisit her childhood and her father’s past, with host Josh Dean. Spotify’s 2019 announcement identifies The Clearing as a production by Pineapple Street Media in association with Gimlet. That is the show’s framing of the story, rather than a court finding or a verbatim account from Balascio. Spotify’s 2019 announcement describes the series and its production.
