Sabrina Ionescu is married to Hroniss Grasu, a former Oregon football player and NFL offensive lineman. They married in Laguna Beach, California, in March 2024. Ionescu has said they began dating during her final year at the University of Oregon, though the available accounts do not establish exactly how they first met.
Who is Hroniss Grasu?
Grasu played center for the University of Oregon before moving to the NFL. The Chicago Bears selected him in the third round of the 2015 NFL draft. His NFL stops have included Chicago, Baltimore, Miami, Tennessee, San Francisco and Las Vegas, according to Sporting News.
Ionescu is a guard for the New York Liberty. The WNBA’s official player profile lists Oregon as her college, the 2020 draft as Round 1, Pick 1, and her as a 2024 WNBA champion.
When did Sabrina Ionescu and Hroniss Grasu start dating?
In a July 2024 Vanity Fair interview, Ionescu said their relationship began during her last year at Oregon. She described coordinating life around their sports schedules, saying, “It’s been a part of our relationship since we started dating my last year in college [the University of Oregon], so it’s something we’re used to.”

The start of their relationship is distinct from when it became public: ESPN reported that they announced it in August 2021. The available accounts do not establish how or where they first met. In particular, they were not at Oregon at the same time: Grasu’s final Ducks season was 2014, and Ionescu began playing for Oregon in 2016, according to Sporting News.
When did they get married?
ESPN reported that Ionescu and Grasu married in Laguna Beach, California, in March 2024, after getting engaged in January 2023. Its March 12 report said the wedding took place the preceding weekend. Read ESPN’s wedding report.

How do their sports careers fit around married life?
In the Vanity Fair interview, Ionescu said their seasons do not fully overlap and that Grasu has been able to attend some of her games. Their careers are in different sports: she plays guard in the WNBA, while he played offensive line in the NFL. Sporting News described Grasu as a free agent in a profile published October 11, 2025; that dated description does not establish his roster status today.
