Julia Roberts said she was nervous to meet Chloë Sevigny, her After the Hunt co-star—but the feeling was excitement and admiration, not fear of a personal conflict. At a rehearsal gathering at Roberts’s home, Ayo Edebiri shared the nerves: Roberts recalled saying, “I’m scared,” and Edebiri answering, “Me too.”
Why was Julia Roberts nervous to meet Chloë Sevigny?
Roberts explained the reaction simply: “Because it’s Chloë.” She also described Sevigny as “exceptional and eccentric.” The anecdote presents the nerves as a lighthearted response to meeting an actor Roberts admired and had not met before, rather than a sign of tension between them.

What happened before Sevigny arrived?
In a Variety group interview with the cast and director, Roberts recalled gathering at her home with Edebiri, director Luca Guadagnino, producer Allan Mandelbaum, and her daughter Hazel to discuss and rehearse the film. Mandelbaum said Sevigny would arrive in a couple of minutes. Roberts and Edebiri exchanged a look, and when Guadagnino asked what was going on, they admitted they were scared. Roberts said Hazel joked that she would leave through the garage when Sevigny arrived.
How does the story fit the film?
After the Hunt is a Luca Guadagnino film starring Roberts, Edebiri, Andrew Garfield, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Sevigny. As The Independent describes it, the story follows a college professor facing a personal and professional crossroads after a star student accuses one of her colleagues of sexual misconduct. Roberts recounted the nerves anecdote while discussing the cast; it is a brief story about meeting a co-star, not a claim about the film’s events.

Where did Roberts tell the story?
Variety published the cast-and-director group interview in September 2025. The Independent reported in October 2025 that Roberts also recounted the anecdote on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Both accounts frame the remark as admiration and excitement about Sevigny.
