The 96th Academy Awards aired on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at 7 p.m. Eastern / 4 p.m. Pacific on ABC. ABC’s 30-minute preshow began at 6:30 p.m. Eastern / 3:30 p.m. Pacific. In the United States, viewers could watch through a local ABC station, an authenticated ABC.com or ABC app stream in select markets, or a live-TV streaming service carrying their local ABC affiliate.
Historical-date note: The 2024 Oscars have already taken place. The information below explains the original broadcast arrangements and should not be read as a current Oscars schedule.
2024 Oscars: date, start time, and network
| Coverage | Eastern Time | Pacific Time |
|---|---|---|
| ABC preshow | 6:30–7:00 p.m. | 3:30–4:00 p.m. |
| Main ceremony | 7:00 p.m. | 4:00 p.m. |
The ceremony was broadcast live from the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles. Jimmy Kimmel hosted the ceremony, which was televised internationally in more than 200 territories. Outside the United States, the broadcaster and start time depended on the country, so international viewers needed to check local listings or regional Academy viewing information rather than use the U.S. ABC schedule.
Where U.S. viewers could watch the ceremony
1. A local ABC station
The most straightforward option was a local ABC affiliate. Viewers could receive that station through an antenna, cable subscription, or satellite television package. The exact affiliate depended on the viewer’s location.

If you used an antenna, the relevant question was whether an ABC station served your area—not whether you subscribed to a particular streaming platform. Cable and satellite customers needed a package that included their local ABC channel.
2. ABC.com or the ABC app
ABC also offered live streaming through ABC.com and the ABC app, but this was not a universally free, no-login stream. ABC stated that the live stream required authentication with a participating television provider and was available only in select markets.
ABC listed smartphones, tablets, computers, Roku, Apple TV, and Amazon Fire TV among the supported ways to access its digital viewing experience. Compatibility with one of those devices did not remove the two other conditions: the stream had to be available in the viewer’s market, and the viewer generally needed qualifying provider credentials.
3. A live-TV streaming service with local ABC
Cord-cutters could use a live-TV streaming service that carried their local ABC affiliate. Contemporary coverage identified these services as options for the 2024 ceremony:
- Hulu + Live TV
- YouTube TV
- DIRECTV STREAM
- FuboTV
The important qualification is local-channel availability. A subscription to one of these services did not automatically guarantee access to ABC in every ZIP code. Before signing up, viewers needed to use the provider’s local-channel lookup and confirm that the service carried their local ABC station.
How to choose the right viewing method
- Have an antenna, cable, or satellite? Check whether your local ABC affiliate is included or receivable.
- Already have a participating TV provider? Try ABC.com or the ABC app, then sign in with the provider account if the live stream is offered in your market.
- No cable or satellite? Check Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV, DIRECTV STREAM, or FuboTV for local ABC availability before purchasing a subscription.
- Need to watch on a television without built-in app support? A supported device such as a Roku streaming stick, Amazon Fire TV Stick, or Apple TV could provide access to the ABC app, subject to the same market and authentication requirements.
Optional devices for watching ABC on a TV
If your television did not support the ABC app, a Roku streaming stick was one possible way to add a supported streaming platform. ABC’s 2024 viewing information listed Roku among its compatible connected-device options. An Amazon Fire TV Stick or Apple TV was another possible route.

- Alexa voice control - The Alexa Voice Remote lets you easily control your entertainment, search across apps, switch inputs, and more using just your voice. Press and hold the voice button and ask Alexa to easily find, launch, and control content, and even switch to cable.
- Access thousands of shows with Fire TV - Watch over 1.5 million streaming movies and TV episodes with access to thousands of channels, apps and Alexa skills, including Prime Video, Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, YouTube, Apple TV+, Disney+, ESPN+, Sling TV, Paramount+, and other services right from this TV.*
- DTS Virtual-X Sound - An immersive sound format creates a three-dimensional sound experience with your TV’s speakers.
- Supports HDMI ARC - Sends audio directly from the HDMI jack to a compatible soundbar or AV receiver, removing the need for an extra cable.
These devices only made it easier to access the app or website experience. They did not create an ABC signal, guarantee that a live stream was offered in your ZIP code, or bypass the participating-provider login requirement. In other words, buying streaming hardware alone would not have unlocked the 2024 Oscars.
What about the red carpet and preshow?
ABC scheduled a 30-minute preshow immediately before the ceremony, from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Eastern / 3:30 to 4 p.m. Pacific. The main awards telecast began at 7 p.m. Eastern / 4 p.m. Pacific.

The Associated Press also provided livestream coverage of celebrity arrivals and interviews through APNews.com and YouTube. That coverage was ancillary red-carpet material, not the official full Oscars ceremony. It could supplement the broadcast, but it was not a replacement for the ABC telecast.
Can you still watch the complete 2024 Oscars?
The original ABC viewing guide established how to watch the live broadcast, but the reviewed official information does not confirm that the complete 2024 telecast remains available as an official on-demand replay as of August 12, 2026.
The Academy’s official 96th Oscars material includes a ceremony recap, winners, nominees, and highlights. An official Academy YouTube recap is also available, but those materials should not be described as the complete ceremony. Likewise, an unofficial third-party video claiming to contain the full event is not an authoritative ABC or Academy viewing route and should not be presented as an official free replay.

The Academy said the 96th Oscars was televised in more than 200 territories worldwide. However, the U.S. ABC arrangement did not apply globally. Each country could have a different broadcaster, streaming platform, blackout rule, or local start time.
Viewers outside the United States should check:
- their local television listings;
- the Academy’s regional “how to watch” information;
- the website or app of the country’s official broadcaster.
Do not assume that an ABC account, U.S. live-TV subscription, or U.S. start time will work in another country.
Quick troubleshooting checklist
- ABC does not appear in the streaming-service lineup: Enter the correct ZIP code and verify local-channel coverage before subscribing.
- The ABC app asks you to sign in: The 2024 live stream required participating-provider authentication in select markets; a supported device alone was not enough.
- The app works but the live channel is unavailable: Device compatibility and live-market eligibility were separate requirements.
- You found a “full ceremony” video on YouTube: Check whether it was uploaded by the Academy or ABC. Unofficial uploads are not reliable evidence of an authorized full replay.
- You are outside the U.S.: Use local listings or the Academy’s regional information instead of the U.S. ABC instructions.

Could you watch the 2024 Oscars without cable?
Yes, if a live-TV streaming service carried your local ABC station. Contemporary options included Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV, DIRECTV STREAM, and FuboTV. Availability depended on the viewer’s market.
Was the ABC stream free?
ABC offered live streaming through ABC.com and the ABC app in select markets, but viewers generally needed to authenticate with a participating television provider. It should not be described as a universally free stream.
Is the full 2024 Oscars ceremony still available online?
The reviewed official information confirms Academy recaps and highlights but does not confirm that the complete telecast remains available as an official on-demand replay as of August 12, 2026. Unofficial third-party uploads are not authoritative.
