Simran Bhogal’s current whereabouts are not publicly verifiable. As of the reporting available through 12 August 2026, no authoritative source confirms where she lives, what job she holds, or whether she has any public-facing activity. She has kept a low profile, but there is no reliable basis for claims that she is in witness protection, has changed her identity, or is deliberately hiding in a particular place.

Older reports said Bhogal lived with her parents in northwest London and that she no longer held a senior Barclays position reportedly described as a vice-president role. Those details are historical and should not be presented as a live location or current employment update.

The most accurate answer is that Simran Bhogal’s present whereabouts are not publicly verifiable. Reporting available through 12 August 2026 does not confirm where she lives, what work she does, or whether she has any public-facing activity. She appears to have kept a low profile, but that does not establish that she is hiding, has changed her identity, or is living under witness protection.

Earlier secondary reports said Bhogal was living with her parents in northwest London. That is historical reporting, not a current location confirmation, and it should not be repeated as though it were her address today. The same caution applies to claims about her employment: reporting linked to the original Sweet Bobby podcast said she no longer held her former senior role at Barclays, widely described as a vice-president position, but no authoritative current employer has been identified.

What is actually known about Simran Bhogal now?

Question What reliable reporting supports
Where does she live? No reliable current source located in this research identifies her address or confirms that the earlier northwest-London report remains accurate.
Where does she work? Reporting said she no longer held the Barclays role associated with the case. No verified current employer or occupation has been found.
Is she active publicly? No verified current business, professional profile, media appearance, or public statement was found. She also declined to be interviewed for Netflix’s documentary.
Was she criminally convicted? The documented legal outcome is a civil settlement. The available sources do not support saying that Bhogal was criminally convicted over the conduct described in Sweet Bobby.
Is she in witness protection? There is no reliable evidence supporting that claim.

The limits of the public record matter here. Not finding a current employer, address, or social-media account does not prove that Bhogal has no job, private life, or online presence. It means those details have not been authoritatively established and should not be filled in with speculation.

Why Simran Bhogal became central to Sweet Bobby

Sweet Bobby follows Kirat Assi’s account of an online relationship that began in 2009. Assi believed she was communicating with a man named Bobby Jandu, presented as a cardiologist connected to her wider Punjabi-Sikh community. The relationship continued for approximately eight to nine years and was conducted through a network of online identities.

According to Tortoise Media’s original investigation, the account associated with Bobby was only one part of a much larger construction. Reporting has described up to about 60 fabricated characters and accounts being used around the relationship. The real Bobby had not had the relationship Assi believed she was having and did not know about the online connection in the way she understood it.

In 2018, Assi investigated the identity she had been speaking to and met or confronted the real Bobby in Brighton. She then reported the matter to police. Tortoise’s account says Bhogal subsequently arrived at Assi’s home and confessed that she had been behind Bobby and the other identities.

The story was not presented mainly as a conventional romance scam designed to extract money. Assi described years of emotional pressure, monitoring, isolation, and demands about her movements and availability. She and commentators have used terms including coercive control and online entrapment to describe the experience. Those terms help explain the alleged pattern of conduct, but they should not be confused with a criminal-court finding against Bhogal.

What happened after the deception was exposed?

The civil case

Assi brought civil proceedings against Bhogal involving misuse of private information, harassment, and data-protection breaches. Legal-industry reporting says the claim was issued in October 2020 and settled by a court order dated 14 June 2021.

Public accounts of the settlement describe substantial damages and legal costs, along with a private apology from Bhogal. The settlement is the documented legal resolution of the civil claim. It is not the same thing as a criminal conviction, and the available reporting does not justify presenting it as one.

The police response

The criminal-law position is more complicated than the shorthand claim that catfishing is simply illegal or not illegal. Contemporary reporting said police did not pursue the matter as a standalone criminal catfishing case, partly because catfishing was not itself a standalone criminal offence in the relevant circumstances.

Assi later said she had reopened or continued challenging the police decision in relation to allegations involving coercive control, stalking, and harassment. That reporting does not establish that criminal charges were ultimately filed or that Bhogal was convicted. The distinction is important: conduct that may be abusive or harmful can potentially intersect with several different laws, but the label catfishing alone does not determine the legal outcome in every jurisdiction.

Did Simran Bhogal appear in the Netflix documentary?

No. Bhogal declined to be interviewed for Sweet Bobby: My Catfish Nightmare, the Netflix documentary released on 16 October 2024. Netflix used an actress to represent her in the film rather than presenting Bhogal on camera.

A statement attributed to Bhogal said that the events began when she was a schoolgirl, that she considered the matter private, and that she objected to what she regarded as unfounded and damaging accusations. Because she did not participate in an interview, the documentary’s dramatic representation should not be mistaken for new, first-person footage of Bhogal or for confirmation of her current life.

Sweet Bobby timeline

Date What happened
2009 Assi was contacted through Facebook by a profile connected, according to Tortoise’s account, to Bhogal’s then-boyfriend. The online deception began.
2009–2018 Assi remained involved in the online relationship and its wider network of identities for roughly eight to nine years.
2018 Assi investigated the real Bobby, met or confronted him in Brighton, and reported the matter to police. Bhogal later confessed to creating or operating the identities.
October 2020 Assi issued a civil claim involving misuse of private information, harassment, and data-protection breaches.
14 June 2021 The civil claim was settled by court order. Later reporting described damages, costs, and a private apology.
October 2021 Tortoise Media released the six-part Sweet Bobby podcast.
16 October 2024 Netflix released Sweet Bobby: My Catfish Nightmare.
12 August 2026 No verified public update identified Bhogal’s current address, job, or public activity.

Why there is no reliable current update

Bhogal’s absence from the documentary and from the public channels normally used by journalists has created an information vacuum. That vacuum is often filled online with alleged photographs, social-media accounts, alternate identities, and guesses about where she went. None of those claims should be treated as evidence without strong, independently verifiable sourcing.

A person’s past involvement in a widely reported story does not make every detail of their current private life public property. In this case, the available reporting does not justify publishing a precise address, identifying relatives, circulating unverified images, or asserting that Bhogal has assumed another identity.

The responsible conclusion is narrower: Bhogal has maintained a low public profile since the case became widely known, and no authoritative source found in this research pass confirms her present location, occupation, or public activities. That conclusion leaves room for a private life without inventing details about it.

What the public record does—and does not—prove

  • It does support: the broad timeline of the online deception, the reported use of multiple fabricated identities, Bhogal’s reported confession, Assi’s civil claim, the June 2021 settlement, the 2021 podcast, and the 2024 Netflix documentary.
  • It does not support: a current address, a current employer, a criminal conviction, witness-protection claims, or unverified allegations about new identities or social-media accounts.
  • It should not be overstated: descriptions such as coercive control and online entrapment describe the experience and allegations reported by Assi and commentators; they are not, by themselves, findings from a criminal trial.

The source base for this account includes Tortoise Media’s original reporting, Netflix’s documentary materials, and legal-industry reporting about the civil proceedings. Later status details come from secondary reporting and remain limited. That is why the answer to the title’s question is necessarily cautious rather than a precise location or career update.

No. The documented outcome was Kirat Assi’s civil claim, which settled by court order on 14 June 2021. Public reporting describes damages, legal costs, and a private apology, but the available sources do not support saying Bhogal was criminally convicted.

Does Simran Bhogal appear in the Netflix documentary?

No. Bhogal declined to be interviewed for Sweet Bobby: My Catfish Nightmare. Netflix used an actress to represent her in the documentary.

Is catfishing illegal in the UK?

The legal answer depends on the jurisdiction and the conduct involved. In the United Kingdom reporting about this case, catfishing was not treated as a standalone criminal offence in the relevant circumstances. Assi’s civil case involved privacy, harassment, and data-protection claims, while later reporting discussed allegations involving coercive control, stalking, and harassment. There is no verified report here of a resulting criminal conviction.

The Bottom Line

As of the reporting available through 12 August 2026, Simran Bhogal’s whereabouts and occupation are not publicly verified. She is reported to have kept a low profile after the Sweet Bobby case; the last widely repeated northwest-London location and Barclays employment details are historical, not confirmed current facts. The documented legal outcome was a civil settlement, not a reported criminal conviction.
