As of LBC’s update on February 10, 2026, and Netflix Tudum’s July 17, 2025 report, Rose West was serving her life sentence at HM Prison New Hall in West Yorkshire. Those are publisher reports, not a current official prison confirmation. West was convicted of ten murders; her husband, Fred West, died in prison before his trial and was never tried to a verdict.
Where is Rose West now?
The latest location reported in the sources available here is HM Prison New Hall, a women’s prison in West Yorkshire. Netflix Tudum named New Hall in its July 17, 2025 article, and LBC’s report, updated February 10, 2026, also names the prison. The location should be understood as reported by those publishers: no current official prison confirmation was located.
LBC’s article also includes claims attributed to anonymous sources about West’s health and life in prison. Those claims are not independently established here, so they should not be treated as confirmed facts.
What happened to Rose and Fred West legally?
Netflix Tudum reports that Rose West was found guilty of ten murders and sentenced to life imprisonment. The conviction count is distinct from wider allegations or claims about possible additional victims; it refers to the murders for which she was found guilty.
Fred West died by suicide in prison before his trial. He was therefore not tried to a verdict, and should not be described as having been convicted alongside Rose.
How the investigation came to light
Netflix Tudum’s account says police went to 25 Cromwell Street in Gloucester in 1994 after a tip connected to the disappearance of Heather West. It reports that police found Heather’s remains and eight additional bodies in the garden and cellar. These details are attributed here to Tudum’s published account rather than presented as independently checked police or court records.

The scale of the case is not a reason to lose sight of the people harmed. The investigation concerned victims and families, not simply the notoriety of the Wests. Claims about victims beyond the ten murders for which Rose was convicted require careful attribution and should not be folded into her conviction count.

Netflix’s official Media Center describes Fred and Rose West: A British Horror Story as a three-part documentary. Its synopsis says the series uses previously unseen police video and unheard audio recordings, follows Gloucestershire Police’s discovery of the remains of 12 victims, and includes perspectives from some victims’ family members. That is the distributor’s description of the programme, not a substitute for court or police records.
