The production was made in collaboration with Vatican Media. Before the premiere, Pope Leo XIV watched excerpts and said, “How beautiful, it speaks about love,” according to Vatican News.
An archival RaiPlay release in 2026
Rai Teche’s 2026 archive listings include Benigni among the performers in Del resto, fu un’estate meravigliosa, a 1977 program made available on RaiPlay in September 2026. This is an archival release of older television material, not a new Benigni production. See Rai Teche.

Is Roberto Benigni making another film?
There is no confirmed new directed feature film in the sources available. At a Notre Dame honorary doctorate event in January 2024, Benigni said, “Mi piacerebbe tanto fare un film” (“I would really like to make a film”). That expresses an interest, not an announced production. ANSA noted that his last film as director at that time was The Tiger and the Snow (2005). ANSA reported his comment on 29 January 2024.
Why he is best known for Life Is Beautiful
Benigni is an Italian actor, comedian, and director, best known internationally for Life Is Beautiful (La vita è bella). Rai Teche identifies it as a film by and starring Benigni and records that it received three Academy Awards at the 71st ceremony in 1999. Rai Teche’s archive provides that film and awards context.
His public performances have also brought comedy together with literary, political, or religious subjects. In a 2024 World Children’s Day address, he drew on the Gospel’s Sermon on the Mount. Vatican News described the performance and quoted him saying that the only sensible advice he had heard came from Jesus. Vatican News covered the address on 26 May 2024.

The recent public record points to Italian television and cultural programming, rather than a confirmed new film. It does not establish Benigni’s private residence or day-to-day whereabouts. His recent work is best understood through the 2025 Rai 1 monologue and archival television appearances, while any future film remains unconfirmed.
