If you exported a Samsung Music playlist, look in My Files → Internal storage → Music for an .m3u file. A playlist that has not been exported may be managed inside Samsung Music and may not show up as a regular file in My Files. The playlist file is separate from the audio tracks it lists.
Three things people mean by “playlist storage”
Finding a Samsung Music playlist is confusing because “the playlist” can mean the app’s saved playlist, an exported backup file, or the music itself. These are not interchangeable:
- Playlist managed by Samsung Music: Playlists created in the app may be held in its app-managed data rather than exposed as ordinary files. There is no single supported folder path you can count on finding in My Files.
- Exported playlist backup: Samsung’s current regional support guidance identifies the export as an
.m3ufile saved in the device’s Music folder—normally Internal storage → Music. The exact filename and menu labels can vary. See Samsung’s export and import instructions. - Music tracks: The audio files may be in Music, Downloads, a folder you created, an SD card, or another location. An exported playlist lists songs; it does not copy the audio files.
Samsung Music release notes for an Android 11-era version describe its playlists as separate from Android’s MediaProvider playlists. That change is one reason older advice about standard Android playlist files or a particular “Playlists” folder may not apply to a current Samsung Music installation. The supported user-facing method is to export from Samsung Music itself.
How to find an exported Samsung Music playlist
- Open My Files.
- Tap Internal storage, then open Music.
- Look for an
.m3ufile. If you do not see it, use My Files search for.m3uor the playlist’s name.
This folder is the documented destination for exported backups, not proof that every playlist created in Samsung Music is automatically saved there. Samsung notes that menus and behavior may differ by model, software version, and region.

Export playlists before you change phones or uninstall the app
If the playlist is still visible in Samsung Music, export it before removing the app, clearing its data, resetting the phone, or moving to another device. Samsung’s current instructions use this general path:
- Open Samsung Music.
- Tap More options (⋮), then Settings.
- Tap Manage playlists.
- Choose Export my playlists or the similarly named export option.
- Select playlists if prompted, then confirm the export.
- In My Files, check Internal storage → Music for the resulting
.m3ufile. - Copy the file somewhere outside the phone, such as a computer, USB drive, or cloud-storage folder.
Samsung’s support instructions use this menu sequence, though the wording can differ in a particular regional app build. Samsung says local music may be required before import and export controls become available.

Do not clear Samsung Music’s app data or uninstall it as a first troubleshooting step. App-managed playlist data may be lost. Exporting first creates a separate file you can copy and keep.

Move and restore a playlist on another Galaxy
An .m3u file is a playlist definition, not a music archive. For a usable transfer, copy both the playlist backup and the actual local audio files the playlist refers to.

- Copy the exported
.m3ufile to the destination Galaxy, placing it in Internal storage → Music. - Copy the corresponding music files to the new phone as well. Keep their folder structure as close to the original as practical.
- Open Samsung Music and go to More options → Settings → Manage playlists.
- Tap Import playlists, select the backup, and confirm.
Samsung documents transferring the backup to the new device before importing it. If the songs are in a different location, have been renamed, or are absent, some imported playlist entries may not resolve. An import can restore the list without restoring the songs.
If an imported playlist is empty or incomplete

| Some tracks work, others do not. | Check whether files were renamed, moved to another folder, or copied to a different storage type. A change from internal storage to SD card, or vice versa, can change paths referenced by a playlist. |
| The music was downloaded in a streaming app. | Subscription-service offline downloads are generally app-specific content, not ordinary audio files available to Samsung Music. Use that service’s own library and playlist features. |
| The files are present but Samsung Music does not show them. | Check that Samsung Music can access music and audio files, and allow the app to rescan or refresh its library if that option is available. |
| You copied the music folder but not the playlist. | Copy the exported .m3u backup too; audio files alone do not preserve playlist order or membership. |
| You copied the playlist but not the music. | Transfer the referenced local tracks as well. A playlist file is a list of references, not the tracks themselves. |
Why older tutorials mention different folders
Older community posts may describe a Samsung Music/Playlists folder or other locations. Those reports can reflect older app behavior; they should not be treated as a universal path for current devices. Samsung Music’s playlist handling has also been distinguished from Android’s MediaProvider playlist system in release notes. For a backup you can deliberately locate and move, use Samsung Music’s own export control and check the documented Internal storage → Music destination instead of relying on an assumed legacy folder.

Avoid searching for or editing a guessed app-private directory such as /data/data/com.sec.android.app.music/. Android normally restricts access to app-private data, and this is not Samsung’s supported backup or restore workflow.

If “Manage playlists” is missing or disabled
- Check that the device has locally stored music; Samsung notes that local tracks may be needed to enable these controls.
- Check Samsung Music’s permission to access music and audio files.
- Update Samsung Music through the Galaxy Store or the update channel available on your device.
- Look for a translated or slightly different label, such as Playlist management or Export playlists. Menus vary by region, model, and version.
- If still stuck, consult the device-specific manual or Samsung Members for that model and region.
Do not clear app data while trying these checks unless you have already exported the playlists or accepted that they may be lost.

Will Samsung Cloud restore Samsung Music playlists?
Do not assume Samsung Cloud or a Samsung Account automatically preserves every Samsung Music playlist. The available current support guidance establishes the app’s export and import workflow; it does not establish universal cloud syncing of playlist state. Treat playlists as local data unless you have confirmed a working sync feature on your exact device and app version. Keep an exported backup independently.
Can you recover a playlist after uninstalling or resetting?
If you exported the playlist, reinstall Samsung Music, put the .m3u file in the phone’s Music folder, make sure the referenced audio files are available, then import through Manage playlists. If you did not export it, search the old phone, computer backups, USB drives, and cloud folders for an .m3u file. Reinstalling Samsung Music by itself is not the same as restoring app-managed playlist data.
If no backup or old-device data remains, recovery may not be possible. A playlist stored only in app-managed data can be lost when that data is removed.

Not necessarily. Copying music files preserves the tracks, but not necessarily the playlist arrangement. Copying an .m3u file preserves the playlist definition, but not the tracks. For a reliable move, export the playlists and copy both the backup files and the local audio files.
