When did John Krasinski know Emily Blunt was “the one”?
In the People interview accompanying his 2024 Sexiest Man Alive recognition, Krasinski recalled being introduced to Blunt across a restaurant. He walked over, and, as E! News reported his account, said: “And as soon as I shook her hand, I just knew.”

That is the specific moment behind the story: Krasinski says the certainty came during their first handshake, rather than after a longer courtship.
How did Krasinski and Blunt meet?
Their first meeting is dated to November 2008 at a Los Angeles restaurant, through mutual friends. In an account Blunt gave in 2018, as recounted in ELLE’s relationship timeline, she was at the restaurant with a friend. The friend pointed out that Krasinski was there with Justin Theroux; Krasinski came over and made Blunt laugh.

Krasinski had described an immediate reaction before his 2024 interview, too. In an account from a 2011 appearance reproduced by ELLE, he said he had not been looking for a relationship, then recalled: “Then I met her, and I was so nervous. I was like, ‘Oh god, I think I’m going to fall in love with her.’” That earlier recollection is related to, but distinct from, his later story about the handshake.

Krasinski and Blunt became engaged in 2009 and married in July 2010 at George Clooney’s estate in Lake Como, Italy, according to The Independent. They have two daughters: Hazel, born in February 2014, and Violet, born in June 2016, according to ELLE’s timeline.
The couple also worked together on A Quiet Place. Their later professional collaboration adds context to their public story, but Krasinski’s account of knowing at once remains a recollection of the first time they met.
