Marvel also announced a limited-edition Thunderbolts* 4K SteelBook presentation. A Walmart-exclusive pop-up Blu-ray package was announced as well. These special editions are collector-oriented rather than separate cuts of the movie. Availability and pricing may vary, and an old release announcement should not be treated as confirmation that a particular retailer still has stock.
For readers comparing physical copies, the Thunderbolts* 4K UHD Blu-ray is the format to investigate first if a 4K disc and collector presentation are the priority. The Thunderbolts* Blu-ray + Digital Copy is the more straightforward choice for someone who wants a physical Blu-ray together with a digital companion. Neither product mention should be read as a current stock or price guarantee.
Bonus material in the home release
Marvel said the digital, 4K UHD, and Blu-ray editions included hours of bonus material. The announced extras include:
- Deleted scenes
- A gag reel
- Behind-the-scenes featurettes
- Filmmaker commentary from director Jake Schreier
The research for the release announcement confirms the presence of these categories of extras, but it does not establish that every bonus feature appears on every edition or in every territory. Check the package details for the particular digital or disc version before buying if a specific extra is important to you.

What is Thunderbolts* about?
Thunderbolts* brings together a group of MCU characters who do not fit the traditional superhero-team mold. Florence Pugh plays Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan plays Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, David Harbour plays Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen plays Ghost, Wyatt Russell plays John Walker/U.S. Agent, Julia Louis-Dreyfus plays Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, and Lewis Pullman plays Bob/Sentry.
The story centers on a dangerous mission tied to Valentina and a death trap that forces the team to confront more than an external enemy. The characters’ histories, failures, and darker sides are part of the conflict, giving the film its antihero-and-misfit premise rather than presenting the group as a conventional, already-unified Avengers-style squad.
Schreier directed the film from a screenplay credited to Eric Pearson and Joanna Calo. Marvel’s official production coverage describes the ensemble as characters assembled from different corners of the MCU, while Disney’s synopsis emphasizes the mission involving Yelena, Bucky, Red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster, and John Walker.

The official title remains Thunderbolts*, including the asterisk. Marvel and Disney later used “The New Avengers” in promotional and platform-related material, but that phrase does not replace the film’s official title. Use “The New Avengers” only when discussing the film’s marketing or in-story context—not as the primary title of the movie.

Bottom line for viewers and collectors
If you were checking the old “July 1” and “July 29” announcement, both dates refer to the U.S. 2025 home-release rollout: digital rental and purchase came first, followed four weeks later by 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD. Disney+ subsequently listed the film from August 27, 2025. For a current viewing decision, check Disney+ or a local digital storefront. For ownership, compare the standard Blu-ray-plus-digital package with the 4K UHD and limited SteelBook editions, while treating retailer stock and pricing as changeable.
