At a February 2025 press event, James Gunn and Peter Safran described a DCU slate at very different stages—not a newly announced lineup. Their clearest Batman point was that Robert Pattinson was not planned as the shared-universe Batman. Supergirl, meanwhile, was moving toward production. Since then, DC has listed the film for June 2026, while a January 2026 report says the screenplay for The Brave and the Bold still was not finished.
What the February 2025 update did—and did not—confirm
Gunn and Safran used the February 24, 2025 press event to discuss ongoing projects, rather than unveil a fresh slate with firm dates for everything. They stressed that scripts and story quality mattered more than announcing projects to satisfy expectations or a calendar. The comments are best read as a snapshot of development at that event, not as a current status board. Germain Lussier’s February 24, 2025 account for Gizmodo/io9 reported the discussion.

Supergirl: the film, its source comic, and its listed release date
DC’s official Supergirl film page lists a North American theatrical and IMAX release on June 26, 2026, with international release beginning June 24. Those are DC’s listed dates and may change. The film stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, is directed by Craig Gillespie, and has a screenplay by Ana Nogueira. DC also lists Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, David Corenswet, and Jason Momoa in the cast.
DC describes Kara joining an unlikely companion on an interstellar journey of vengeance and justice after a ruthless adversary strikes close to home. Its August 2025 studio update identifies Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow as the source comic and recommends it to readers preparing for the film. That makes the graphic novel the most direct reading choice for someone interested in the adaptation: DC’s August 11, 2025 update.

The same DC article recommends Lobo: Portrait of a Bastich for background on Lobo. It also clarifies that Lobo is not in Woman of Tomorrow, so the character’s connection to the film should not be mistaken for an appearance in the source comic.
Is Robert Pattinson the DCU Batman?
No—not according to Gunn’s February 2025 comments. Asked about Pattinson becoming the shared-DCU Batman, Gunn said, “It’s certainly not the plan.” Safran said the DCU needed its own Batman: “But we’ve got to introduce a Batman into the DCU. It’s imperative. And so that’s the plan with The Brave and the Bold.”
Rank #2
| Batman project | Continuity and role | Status established by the sources |
|---|---|---|
| The Brave and the Bold | Planned Batman for the shared DCU | Described as in very active development at the February 2025 event; no release date was given. In January 2026, Gunn said the screenplay was not finished. |
| The Batman sequel | Matt Reeves’s separate continuity, starring Robert Pattinson; not part of the shared DCU | DC’s August 2025 studio update explicitly treated the Reeves sequel as outside the shared DCU. |
At the 2025 event, The Brave and the Bold was described as depending on the screenplay, with Gunn personally involved and the next step including whether Andy Muschietti felt like the right director. A January 16, 2026 GamesRadar+ report later said Gunn corrected a rumor that the script was complete and the movie was due in 2028. His reported reply was: “Fiction, sorry. Screenplay isn’t finished.” That is a screenplay-status correction, not confirmation of a release year.
What else was happening across the DCU slate in February 2025?
The projects below were described at the February 2025 event. Their stages and targets are historical comments from that date; they should not be read as confirmation that each project remains in the same position today. The event account is Gizmodo/io9’s February 24, 2025 report.

- Paradise Lost: Gunn said work continued and a pilot was being written, while describing the project as important.
- Lanterns: The series was filming. It connected to Superman through Guy Gardner, and Safran described the first season as eight episodes with the potential to continue.
- Clayface: Safran described a body-horror origin story. The report said Mike Flanagan had written a script and that a fall 2026 release was being targeted at the time; that was a historical target, not a guarantee.
- Dynamic Duo: The animated puppet film about two Robins was in pre-production and then planned for 2028. Gunn liked the possibility of placing it in the DCU, while acknowledging the story might not fit that continuity.
- Peacemaker and Creature Commandos: The report said Peacemaker season two was being edited and would connect to Superman; a second season of Creature Commandos was planned, with broader crossover possibilities later.
Projects with uncertain timing or a looser connection to the larger story
- Swamp Thing: Safran said the studio was willing to wait for James Mangold and that the film was not essential to the larger story: “Swamp Thing is not integral to the larger story that we’re telling.”
- The Authority: Gunn said development had been difficult and the project was “a little bit more on the back burner right now.”
- Waller: Gunn said it had suffered setbacks.
- Booster Gold: Gunn said development was progressing, without offering a detailed schedule.
Scripts, concepts, and characters still taking shape
- Sgt. Rock: Safran described a proposed war-film approach. The report also said Daniel Craig had never been set to star.
- Bane/Deathstroke: Safran said Matt Orton was writing a large action movie, but did not confirm the rumored character pairing.
- Teen Titans: Gunn characterized the script as very early.
Gunn and Safran said they were building toward films with more characters, but the February 2025 update did not announce a Justice League release date.

The February 2025 event is useful for understanding what Gunn and Safran said about priorities and development at that moment. For current, concrete details, distinguish dated comments from official listings: DC’s film page provides the listed Supergirl release dates and credits, while the later Batman screenplay report only establishes that the script was not finished as of Gunn’s reported January 2026 reply. Neither statement turns other projects’ 2025 descriptions into current commitments.
