Apple TV+: Presumed Innocent

This legal thriller adapts Scott Turow’s 1987 novel. Jake Gyllenhaal plays a prosecutor accused of murdering a colleague; as he tries to clear his name, he must also reckon with the consequences for his family. The cast includes Ruth Negga, Bill Camp, Elizabeth Marvel and Peter Sarsgaard.
For viewers choosing by format, this is the week’s new serialized thriller rather than a complete season to binge. The official Canadian destination is Apple TV. Apple currently brands the subscription service as Apple TV; Apple TV+ is the name used in this historical 2024 roundup. The service is distinct from buying or renting individual titles, and a subscription does not include separate third-party services.

The Game of Thrones prequel returns to the civil war dividing the Targaryens: the Green faction backs Aegon, while the Black faction supports Rhaenyra. Season two starts with one episode, so viewers looking for the whole season on premiere night would have to wait for the weekly rollout.

This is the second half of season three, not a complete new season. Its four remaining episodes continue Penelope’s story and her romantic prospects in London. If you watched the first part, this batch completes the season; if you did not, the June 13 release was not the start of all eight episodes.

Prime Video: The Boys season four
Premiere: Thursday, June 13, 2024. Format: Eight episodes total; the first three arrive together, followed by weekly Thursday episodes.
The superhero satire, based on the comic by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, returns with Homelander heightening political tensions while Butcher, facing a limited lifespan, tries to reunite the team. The three-episode launch offers more to watch immediately than the single-episode premieres on Apple TV+ and Crave, but it is still not a full-season drop. The Canadian service destination is Amazon Prime.
Which service fits your viewing plans?
- For the week’s fantasy event: Crave has House of the Dragon, but its season unfolds weekly.
- For a substantial first-night batch: Prime Video starts The Boys with three episodes, then switches to weekly releases.
- For the most bingeable new release: Netflix releases all four episodes of Bridgerton season three, part two, together.
- For a new legal thriller: Apple TV+ launches Presumed Innocent with two episodes, then adds one each Wednesday.
No single one of these four services carries all four headline shows. If you only want one title, it may be more practical to subscribe to its service for the period you plan to watch and reassess afterward than to sign up for all four.
