Apple’s official August index lists these eight Apple Originals. Here is what each release offered and who it suited best.
Adult drama and science fiction
Chief of War — August 1
Best for: viewers seeking a historical epic, Hawaiian cultural perspective, or a prestige drama led by Jason Momoa.
Chief of War was the month’s largest new scripted series. Momoa stars as, writes, and executive-produces the nine-episode drama, which follows Hawaiian warrior Kaʻiana as he tries to unify the islands before Western colonization. Apple presents the story from an Indigenous perspective, with a predominantly Polynesian cast that includes Luciane Buchanan, Temuera Morrison, Te Ao o Hinepehinga, Cliff Curtis, Kaina Makua, and Moses Goods.
The first two episodes arrived on August 1. New episodes then followed weekly through September 19, making this a gradual historical-drama watch rather than an August binge. Viewers looking for background reading should treat books about Hawaiian history as optional context, not as official companion material or a substitute for the series’ own historical framing.

Invasion season 3 — August 22
Best for: established Invasion viewers and anyone who prefers international ensemble science fiction over a self-contained movie.
The third season of Apple’s alien-invasion drama premiered with one episode on August 22 and continued weekly through October 24, for a planned 10-episode season. Season 3 brings the principal characters together for the first time as humanity confronts a more direct war with the alien threat and attempts to infiltrate the alien mothership.
Returning cast members include Golshifteh Farahani, Shioli Kutsuna, Shamier Anderson, India Brown, Shane Zaza, and Enver Gjokaj. Erika Alexander joined the series as a new regular. Because the season was released weekly, viewers who waited until all episodes were available could binge it later; viewers following the original calendar had a new episode each Friday.

Comedy
Platonic season 2 — August 6
Best for: viewers who want a character-driven half-hour comedy about friendship, work, relationships, and midlife complications.
Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne returned as longtime friends Will and Sylvia in the second season of Platonic. The 10-episode season premiered globally on Wednesday, August 6, with two episodes, followed by one episode each week through October 1. Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco remain the co-creators.
The show’s appeal is its focus on an old friendship rather than a conventional romantic pairing. That makes it a useful choice for viewers who enjoy recognizable comedy leads but want the central relationship to be messy, affectionate, and platonic.
Apple’s season-two announcement confirms the episode count and rollout.
Kids and family viewing
Stillwater season 4 — August 1
Best for: younger children and parents who want calm, mindfulness-oriented animation rather than high-stimulation storytelling.
The fourth season of Stillwater premiered with five episodes on August 1. Based on Jon J. Muth’s “Zen” books, the series follows a wise panda who helps three children handle everyday problems through breathing exercises, stories, emotional awareness, and mindfulness.
All five opening episodes were released together, so families had several short, self-contained options immediately. The show is particularly suited to a quieter viewing session or a conversation starter about identifying feelings and managing difficult moments. Families interested in the source material can optionally explore Stillwater Zen books; the books are source material, not a requirement for understanding season 4.

Snoopy Presents: A Summer Musical — August 15
Best for: a family movie night, Peanuts fans, and viewers looking for a distinctly seasonal summer story.
This 40-minute special sends Charlie Brown, Sally, Snoopy, Woodstock, and the rest of the Peanuts gang to summer camp. When they learn that declining attendance could force the camp to close, a treasure hunt uncovers old instruments and concert memorabilia. The group then stages a concert to try to save the camp.
The special includes original music from Ben Folds, Jeff Morrow, and Broadway composers Alan Zachary and Michael Weiner. Apple describes it as the first Peanuts musical in more than 30 years. Families who want an activity to pair with the screening can browse Peanuts books for kids or a Snoopy activity book, but those are optional companion products rather than required or necessarily official tie-ins to this special.

Shape Island season 2 — August 29
Best for: younger children and families who enjoy gentle, literary-minded stop-motion animation.
The second season of Shape Island premiered on August 29. The series follows Square, Circle, and Triangle as they solve problems, look for answers, and learn to live with their differences. It is based on the “Shapes” picture-book trilogy by Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen, with returning voices including Yvette Nicole Brown, Harvey Guillén, Scott Adsit, and Gideon Adlon.
Viewers can use the show as a starting point for reading the Shapes books by Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen. This is a source-material recommendation, not a claim that every listing is an official television-series product.

Nonfiction and podcast listening
Unicorn Girl — August 18
Best for: viewers interested in scams, influencer culture, business controversies, and serialized investigative journalism.
Unicorn Girl is not a television series. It is a nine-episode Apple Original investigative podcast hosted and created by journalist Charlie Webster, who also created Scamanda. The podcast investigates influencer and businesswoman Candace Rivera, whose polished public image began to unravel after a period of personal and professional turmoil.
Apple said Apple TV+ subscribers could connect their subscription to Apple Podcasts and access all nine episodes on August 18. That makes it the month’s clearest audio-first recommendation: a useful alternative for people who want documentary-style reporting but do not necessarily want to sit in front of a screen.
Availability and the subscription connection may depend on region and account setup, so check the Apple Podcasts app for the applicable access instructions.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Music and reality competition
KPOPPED — August 29
Best for: K-pop fans, music-competition viewers, and anyone interested in cross-cultural live performances.
All eight episodes of KPOPPED premiered globally on August 29, so this was one of August’s genuine binge releases. The competition pairs Western recording artists with K-pop performers, who reimagine familiar songs for a live Seoul audience. The audience selects the winning performance.
The announced participants included PSY, Megan Thee Stallion, Patti LaBelle, Mel B, Emma Bunton, Vanilla Ice, Kesha, Eve, J Balvin, Kylie Minogue, TLC, Boy George, Jess Glynne, Ava Max, Boyz II Men, and several K-pop groups. Because the lineup spans multiple generations and styles, the show’s central attraction is as much the collaboration and performance format as the competition itself.

Fans can optionally browse K-pop albums featured on KPOPPED, but artist availability and merchandise vary, and those products should not be read as Apple- or performer-endorsed tie-ins.
Apple’s lineup announcement confirms the eight-episode launch and named participants.
Foundation season 3: the important continuing August watch
Foundation season 3 should be included in an August watchlist, but it was not an August premiere. The season was already in progress and added weekly episodes during the month, including “The Stress of Her Regard” on August 1 and “Where Tyrants Spend Eternity” on August 8, according to Apple’s episode listing.
That distinction matters if you are comparing “what’s new” calendars: Foundation was a returning weekly series with August episodes, while Chief of War, Stillwater, Platonic, Snoopy Presents: A Summer Musical, Unicorn Girl, Invasion, KPOPPED, and Shape Island were the month’s listed August launches.
How to choose what to watch
- Choose Chief of War for the month’s main historical drama and Indigenous-perspective storytelling.
- Choose Invasion season 3 if you already follow the alien-invasion saga or want a serialized science-fiction return.
- Choose Platonic season 2 for an adult friendship comedy led by Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne.
- Choose Snoopy Presents: A Summer Musical for the clearest family and summer-season pick.
- Choose Stillwater season 4 for mindfulness-focused viewing with younger children.
- Choose Shape Island season 2 for gentle stop-motion animation connected to picture books.
- Choose Unicorn Girl if you want investigative nonfiction in podcast form rather than scripted television.
- Choose KPOPPED if you want a complete, eight-episode music competition available at once.
- Add Foundation season 3 if you were already following its weekly science-fiction run.
How to watch Apple TV content
Apple TV programming is available through the Apple TV app on supported Apple TV 4K devices, smart TVs, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, gaming consoles, and other compatible screens. An Apple TV 4K streaming device is therefore an optional living-room solution, not a requirement for watching this lineup. Before buying any device, verify that the specific model supports the Apple TV app and that the service and title are available in your country.
