Spoilers for the trailer: the concert in M. Night Shyamalan’s Trap is a police sting, and Josh Hartnett’s character is the serial killer they hope to catch. The film’s first trailer makes that central reveal part of its premise, rather than holding it back as a mystery.
What happens in the Trap trailer?
Trap follows a father and his teenage daughter to a concert by popular singer Lady Raven. The father notices an unusually large police presence and learns that the event is a sting operation. The target is a serial killer believed to be among the concertgoers—and the trailer reveals that Hartnett’s character is the man police are after.
Warner Bros. Pictures describes the setup this way: “A father and teen daughter attend a pop concert, where they realize they’re at the center of a dark and sinister event.” The trailer’s explicit reveal shifts the tension from guessing who the killer is to watching how he might react while surrounded by police and a crowd.
Who is in Trap?
Josh Hartnett stars as the father and targeted serial killer. Ariel Donoghue plays his daughter, and Saleka Shyamalan—director M. Night Shyamalan’s daughter—plays Lady Raven, the singer performing at the concert. Warner Bros. also lists Hayley Mills and Allison Pill among the principal cast. Shyamalan wrote and directed the film.

Why does the film take place at a concert?
Germain Lussier’s April 18, 2024, Gizmodo report says Shyamalan described the communal feeling of attending a concert as the starting point for the film, with its other elements developing from there. That context helps explain the setting’s contrast: a packed event built around shared excitement becomes a place where a dangerous suspect may be hiding in plain sight.
