Tori Spelling recalled a sheer blouse opening at the side while she posed for photos before presenting at an awards show. She initially said she could not remember whether it was the Billboard Music Awards or the American Music Awards; Us Weekly interpreted her clues as pointing to the 23rd Annual American Music Awards in 1996.
What Spelling recalled happening
Speaking on the March 4, 2025 episode of her podcast MisSpelling, Spelling described wearing a light-blue, shimmery, see-through blouse with matching pants. She said she had chosen a different look from the tight dresses she usually wore, and that she and her stylist had not accounted for how transparent the fabric was.
As she posed for photographs, she noticed people in the press reacting. Spelling first called it a “nip slip situation,” but later qualified that description: she was pretty sure she had not worn a bra or nipple covers, and said the blouse opened at the side when she turned. She called the exposure “side boob.” Her recollection does not establish that a nipple was exposed.
How the top was adjusted
Spelling said her publicist interrupted the press line and took her away to adjust the blouse. She recalled going backstage for a quick fix, then returning after her publicist readjusted the top. She said she went on to present with scotch tape bundled beneath it.

Why she connected the fit to breast implants
Spelling said she had recently received breast implants and described them at the time as “very perky and out there and hard.” She offered that as her own explanation for how the blouse fit; it is a retrospective personal account, not a medical assessment.
Which awards show was it?
Spelling initially named two possibilities: the Billboard Music Awards or the American Music Awards. Us Weekly identified the event as the 23rd Annual American Music Awards in 1996, based on its interpretation of her recollection. That identification is the publication’s, rather than a detail Spelling stated with certainty in the quoted account.
