What is the first 28 Years Later trailer about?
The story unfolds almost three decades after the Rage Virus escaped from a biological weapons laboratory. Quarantine remains in place, and a group of survivors lives on an island connected to the mainland by a heavily defended tidal causeway. Sony’s official synopsis says that when one person leaves the island on a mission, they encounter secrets and horrors—including changes among both the infected and the people who survived.

TIME identifies the island community as living on Holy Island, linked to mainland Britain by a tidal causeway. Director Danny Boyle has said the infection was ultimately contained to the UK. That setting makes the causeway more than a striking backdrop: it is a guarded threshold between a small, isolated community and a dangerous mainland.
Who is Aaron Taylor-Johnson in 28 Years Later?
Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays Jamie, the father of 12-year-old Spike, according to TIME’s interview with Boyle. Jodie Comer plays Isla, Spike’s mother, and Alfie Williams plays Spike. Sony’s cast and credits also list Jack O’Connell and Ralph Fiennes; TIME identifies Fiennes’s character as Dr. Kelson.

The trailer’s bow-and-arrow imagery is part of its action and survival atmosphere. It does not, on its own, establish the weapon’s model, how a particular character uses it, or what happens to anyone shown with it.
Is the infected person in the trailer Cillian Murphy?
No. The trailer briefly shows a gaunt infected person whose appearance prompted comparisons with Murphy, but Boyle told EL PAÍS that the character is not Murphy. He recalled the moment the resemblance was pointed out: “Cuando lanzamos el tráiler, mi novia me dijo que un zombi se parecía a Cillian.” (“When we released the trailer, my girlfriend told me a zombie looked like Cillian.”)

What are the Teletubbies doing in 28 Years Later?
The trailer shows Teletubbies imagery, but the available official synopsis and interviews do not explain its exact plot meaning. They do not establish whether it is a flashback, something playing or present in the story world, or a visual chosen for thematic effect. Any more specific explanation should be treated as interpretation rather than confirmed story information.

The same caution applies to other suggestive shots: a trailer image can establish what appears onscreen, but not necessarily a character’s fate or the full context around a weapon or infected body.
What Boyle has said about the infected and the story’s themes
Boyle has described a more dangerous type of infected called Alphas: they are larger and stronger, and some hunt in packs. He has also explained the fast-moving infected in terms of their threat: “It made a lot of sense that they would be much scarier if they could move at enormous speed.” These are the director’s descriptions of the film’s world, not a complete frame-by-frame explanation of the trailer.

In his TIME interview, Boyle connected parts of the story to isolation, community survival and how people rebuild, remember the dead and gradually take risks. He said Brexit and behavior during the COVID era informed aspects of the story; those stated influences need not reduce the film to a single allegory. Discussing a tribute to the dead, he said, “That act of dignity humanizes us.” Asked whether the films should be classified as horror, he replied, “You can call it whatever you like.”

TIME reported on June 16, 2025, that the official trailer had the second-highest first-24-hour view count of any horror-movie trailer at that time, behind It Chapter Two. The cited passage gives no view total, and that dated ranking is not a current all-time comparison.
