Céline Dion sang Édith Piaf’s “Hymne à l’amour” (“Hymn to Love”) at the Paris 2024 Olympic opening ceremony on July 26, 2024. She and Lady Gaga did not sing a duet: they performed separately during the ceremony.
What did Céline Dion sing?
Dion closed the opening ceremony with “Hymne à l’amour,” Piaf’s classic. She sang from the Eiffel Tower, in a performance presented as a tribute to Piaf. The Recording Academy’s account of the ceremony identifies the song and performance; Dion’s official release note also describes her as the surprise final performer.

Did Lady Gaga and Céline Dion perform together?
No. They had separate appearances, with different songs and staging. Gaga performed “Mon truc en plumes,” a French classic associated with performer Zizi Jeanmaire, on a golden staircase by the Seine. Dion sang “Hymne à l’amour” from the Eiffel Tower at the ceremony’s close. The Recording Academy reports both performances, and France.fr’s retrospective provides further context on their song choices.
Why did Lady Gaga choose a French song?
Gaga said she felt a special connection with French people and French music, and wanted her performance to celebrate French art and music and warm the country’s heart. The Recording Academy reproduced her statement about the performance and linked it to her Instagram post. Her choice, “Mon truc en plumes,” was associated with Zizi Jeanmaire; Dion’s selection was Piaf’s “Hymne à l’amour.”
