The official Saturday Night Live video tied to the Trump–Zelenskyy Oval Office confrontation is a March 1, 2025, cold open—not a verified Weekend Update segment. It features Mike Myers as Elon Musk, but the available official description does not establish that the sketch included specific DOGE demands.
Which SNL segment is documented?
NBC’s official SNL video is titled “Elon Musk Cold Open – SNL” and was published March 1, 2025. Its description identifies the scene as a cold open in which Musk interrupts a heated meeting involving Donald Trump, JD Vance, Marco Rubio and Volodymyr Zelenskyy. It does not identify the scene as Weekend Update.
The description names the performers: Mike Myers as Musk, James Austin Johnson as Trump, Bowen Yang as Vance, Marcello Hernández as Rubio and Mikey Day as Zelenskyy. It points viewers to Peacock, though that description alone does not establish the service’s current catalog availability.
What happened at the real Oval Office meeting?
The meeting took place on February 28, 2025, and is recorded in the White House video library under that date. The Associated Press’s contemporaneous account reported that Trump and Vance berated Zelenskyy during the exchange. The planned signing of a minerals deal was called off, and the remainder of Zelenskyy’s visit was canceled.

The documented real-world event supplies the confrontation referenced by SNL’s cold-open description. It should not be confused with a separate Musk appearance earlier that month.
Where does DOGE fit in?
On February 11, 2025, Trump appeared with Musk in the Oval Office before signing an order concerning federal workforce reductions. The AP’s February 11 report also covered Musk’s defense of DOGE and its work. That appearance was separate from the February 28 Trump–Zelenskyy meeting.
