“Against Mine” is a 2022 single by Aimée Osbourne, who releases music as ARO. The song explores the frustration of struggling to express feelings for someone—and the uncertain push and pull when that person withdraws, even if the feelings may be mutual.
Who sings “Against Mine”?
Aimée Osbourne records under the name ARO. “Against Mine” was released under that name on 22 April 2022. NME described it at the time as her first new music in two years and called its sound “dark electro-pop”—a publication’s description rather than a formal genre label from Osbourne. NME’s April 2022 report covers the release and her comments about the song.
What does “Against Mine” mean?
Osbourne said she wanted to capture the frustration of not feeling able to express what you feel about someone. She also described the other side of that dynamic: opening up, then watching the person pull away, even though they might feel the same. She called the movement between those states “the ebbing and flowing” that fascinated her. Those are her comments as quoted in 2022 reporting, not confirmation that the song recounts a specific real-life relationship. NME quoted her explanation via Rolling Stone.
When did Osbourne write it?
Osbourne told Rolling Stone UK that she wrote “Against Mine” before the pandemic and called it “one of the fastest songs I’ve ever written.” The song’s 2022 release therefore came after the writing period she described. Rolling Stone UK’s May 2022 interview includes her account of writing it and her approach to releasing music at the time.

Where can you watch the official video?
The official video is titled “ARO / Against Mine (OFFICIAL VIDEO)” and is published on the ARO Official YouTube channel. Loudwire’s contemporary coverage noted the video’s water imagery and quoted Osbourne describing the production as a collaboration with artists whose work and effort helped bring the visual ideas to life. Loudwire’s report provides that additional context.
How does the single fit into ARO’s releases?
“Against Mine” followed ARO’s debut album, Vacare Adamaré, which Apple Music lists as released on 29 October 2020. The album listing offers catalogue context; it does not establish credits for “Against Mine.” In 2022, Osbourne said she felt freedom and excitement in releasing a couple of songs or a single at a time rather than focusing on albums. That was her view then, not a statement of her current release plans. Apple Music’s album listing gives the release date.
