In a February 2024 E! News interview, Kelly Osbourne praised Ozempic and suggested some critics were secretly taking it or were angry they could not afford it. The affordability remark drew criticism as out of touch, including concern about access for people with diabetes. In March, Osbourne said she could be more educated on the subject and described how a friend’s experience had changed her view.
What did Kelly Osbourne say about Ozempic?
In remarks from an E! News interview reported by The Independent on 16 February 2024, Osbourne called the medicine “amazing” and questioned why someone would choose exercise over a medicine-assisted approach to losing weight.
“I think it’s amazing. There are a million ways to lose weight, why not do it through something that isn’t as boring as working out?”
She also said some of the people criticizing Ozempic were secretly using it, or were “pissed off” because they could not afford it. She described it as expensive at the time and predicted that it would eventually become less so because it worked. These words are reported by The Independent as coming from the E! interview; the original E! page was not available for direct verification.

Why did her affordability comment draw criticism?
The suggestion that critics were resentful because they could not pay for Ozempic struck some online commenters as out of touch. Others raised a different concern: that access to a medicine associated with weight loss could be difficult for people with diabetes who use it for a medical condition. The Independent reported these as examples of online reaction, not as the results of a representative poll.
The comment also framed criticism as secret use or envy, rather than engaging with why people might object to the drug’s use or question access. That distinction matters: the reported reaction concerned her remarks and their implications, not a measured consensus about Ozempic itself.

How did Osbourne later respond?
In a follow-up reported by The Independent on 29 March 2024, Osbourne acknowledged that she could be better informed. She said someone she knew had described Ozempic as life-changing because it quieted persistent thoughts about food and gave them room to focus on therapy.
“Like, I have my opinion on stuff, but I could be more educated on the topic, if you know what I’m saying.”

That account changed her perspective, according to the report. Osbourne continued to support the medicine as an option for people it could help, while recognizing that her understanding could improve.

Ozempic is a semaglutide product, but its U.S. prescribing information does not list general weight loss as an indication. The label, revised May 2026, identifies uses in adults with type 2 diabetes: improving blood sugar control alongside diet and exercise, reducing certain major cardiovascular risks in people with established cardiovascular disease, and reducing certain kidney and cardiovascular outcomes in people with chronic kidney disease. Those are the U.S. label indications for Ozempic; they should not be conflated with the indications for other semaglutide products. See the official U.S. prescribing information.

The same label carries a boxed warning about thyroid C-cell tumors observed in rodents; it says the relevance to humans is unknown. It contraindicates Ozempic for people with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2. Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain and constipation are among the listed common adverse reactions. This is label information, not individualized medical advice.
