A filing in a U.S. Patent and Trademark Office proceeding describes the garage as operating since January 2010 and the show as following Rawlings and his team as they acquired, restored, and sold or auctioned older cars. The filing is one party’s account in a trademark case, not an independent finding on every point it asserts. The TTAB filing also identifies tools and protective gloves among goods associated with the Gas Monkey Garage mark.
Gas Monkey Bar N’ Grill was a separate restaurant and music venue that used the Gas Monkey name under a licensing arrangement. A report on the venue’s 2021 rebrand as Amplified describes its operating partners, helping distinguish the venue from the automotive garage. CultureMap Dallas reported on the rebrand.
What happened in the Gas Monkey Bar N’ Grill lawsuit?
According to a 2026 LegalClarity retrospective, the restaurant and Daniel Flaherty sued Rawlings, his production company, and Gas Monkey Holdings in 2018. The plaintiffs sought $6 million and alleged defamation and contract-related conduct. Those were claims made by the plaintiffs, not findings that a court established as fact.

The competing claims
The same retrospective reports that Rawlings and related parties later filed a $1 million countersuit, alleging unauthorized use of Gas Monkey marks. That figure was an amount sought in the countersuit, not damages shown to have been awarded. The dispute was civil litigation over business and branding issues, not a criminal prosecution.
Settlement and dismissal
LegalClarity reports that the parties settled and jointly dismissed all claims in August 2021. The account does not disclose the settlement’s specific financial terms. It also does not establish that either side admitted fault, so neither a payment nor an admission should be inferred from the dismissal.

The trademark matters and the Bar N’ Grill lawsuit should not be collapsed into one case. They involved different forums and procedural questions: trademark applications before the USPTO’s Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, and civil claims between the restaurant-side plaintiffs and Rawlings-related parties.
