Taylor Swift’s “CANCELLED!” is track 10 on her 2025 album The Life of a Showgirl. Coverage of the song reads it as addressing people in Swift’s circle who have faced public cancellation, while also raising broader questions about how women and celebrities are judged. That is an interpretation, not a confirmed explanation from Swift or proof that the song is about one named person.

What the song is reported to be about

ABC News Australia’s October 3, 2025, track-by-track coverage describes “CANCELLED!” as concerning people in Swift’s camp who have been cancelled. Fan culture researcher Georgia Carroll offered a wider interpretation: the song may speak to the way women and celebrities are treated, and to the difference between consequences for serious conduct and attacks over relatively harmless missteps.

Carroll put both sides of that distinction plainly: “people rightfully do get cancelled and a lot of people should be cancelled, but we do often just attack people for relatively harmless missteps.” The comment is Carroll’s reading, quoted by ABC News Australia; it should not be mistaken for Swift’s own stated account of the song.

Does “CANCELLED!” refer to Blake Lively?

That has been speculated about, but the available reporting does not establish Blake Lively as the song’s subject. ABC says the theory circulated and Carroll suggests the situation may have sparked part of the song; neither point confirms a direct reference. Swift has not provided a verified, song-specific explanation in the cited sources, so a definite identification would go beyond what is known.

  • Taylor Swift's 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, will be released worldwide October 3, 2025

How it fits the album

Swift’s official track list places “CANCELLED!” at number 10 on The Life of a Showgirl. The Associated Press reported that the album was released October 3, 2025, and credited Swift, Max Martin and Shellback as producers. In its review, AP places the song within Swift’s recurring artistic interest in public perception and criticism—a critical reading of its place in her work, rather than a definitive statement of intent.

Apple Music lists the record as Swift’s 12th full-length album and includes a “CANCELLED! (Track by Track)” entry dated October 2, 2025. Its accessible listing does not provide a transcript of Swift explaining the song specifically. The existence of that track-by-track entry, by itself, does not settle its meaning.

What is confirmed—and what remains interpretation

  • Confirmed: “CANCELLED!” is track 10 on The Life of a Showgirl, according to Swift’s official track list.
  • Reported interpretation: ABC’s coverage and Carroll’s commentary connect it to public cancellation, scrutiny of women and celebrities, and the possibility of disproportionate backlash.
  • Not established: A definitive account from Swift identifying the song’s target or confirming a Blake Lively connection.

The album announcement also mentioned vinyl and cassette editions, but that is not evidence that either format is currently available in a particular region. Availability can change over time.
