What happens in the film
The official description places Peter Parker five years into his life as Spider-Man. He fails to save his former girlfriend from the Green Goblin, and the loss changes how he relates to the people around him. The premise is built around grief rather than a conventional race to defeat a new villain: Peter has to decide what responsibility means after he believes he has failed someone he loved.

Why the film became controversial
