What Is IMAX Enhanced on Disney+? Marvel Movies You Can Watch

Disney+ IMAX Enhanced means a taller 1.90:1 picture—sometimes only in selected scenes—and optional DTS:X sound on select Android TV devices. Here are the Marvel titles, steps and compatibility limits.

IMAX Enhanced on Disney+ primarily gives you a taller 1.90:1 picture, revealing up to 26% more of the original image than a conventional widescreen presentation. Some films use that framing only for selected sequences. Disney+ also offers IMAX Enhanced sound with DTS:X, but only on select Android TV devices and supported titles. The picture and sound features are separate, so an expanded image does not guarantee DTS:X audio.

Disney’s catalogue changes by territory and over time. The lists below reflect the U.S. Disney+ pages checked in August 2026; your app’s IMAX Enhanced filter and title details are the final authority.

What IMAX Enhanced changes on Disney+

A taller picture, not a full-screen image

The expanded presentation uses a 1.90:1 aspect ratio. Disney says it can show up to 26% more picture than the standard version, usually by adding vertical image above and below the conventional frame. “Up to” matters: the amount varies by scene, film, display shape and the way the widescreen version is cropped or letterboxed. On a 16:9 television, 1.90:1 is still not the same shape as the entire screen.

Some movies remain expanded throughout; others switch between 1.90:1 and conventional widescreen when only certain scenes were filmed or formatted for IMAX. Disney’s consumer explanation is at Disney+ Help.

It is not the same as an IMAX cinema

Disney+ reproduces selected home-presentation characteristics. It cannot recreate an IMAX auditorium’s screen size, brightness, projection system, acoustics or seating geometry. “Filmed in IMAX,” an IMAX theatrical release and an IMAX Enhanced Disney+ stream describe different stages of a movie’s life.

Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame were identified by Disney as the first films shot entirely with IMAX digital cameras, while Disney’s broader Disney+ announcement refers to selected sequences in the expanded ratio. That does not mean every Marvel title in the service was filmed entirely in IMAX.

Picture and DTS:X are separate features

The expanded picture is available on supported Disney+ devices when the title and territory offer it. IMAX Enhanced sound with DTS:X is much more restricted. Disney’s current help information limits it to select Android TV devices from Sony, Hisense, Sharp and Xiaomi, with title, app, firmware, plan, territory and audio-chain requirements also applying. Disney+ currently uses IMAX Enhanced for expanded framing and DTS:X sound; its other IMAX Enhanced functions are not offered on the service (Disney+ video-format help).

Marvel movies currently visible in Disney+’s IMAX Enhanced collection

Disney’s current U.S. IMAX Enhanced landing page visibly links these Marvel titles:

  • The Marvels
  • Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
  • Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
  • Thor: Love and Thunder
  • Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
  • Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
  • Avengers: Endgame

Disney’s collection link spells the last title “Avengers: End Game,” but the film’s official title is Avengers: Endgame. Check the live collection at Disney+ IMAX Enhanced because availability can differ outside the United States.

What about newer Marvel releases?

The landing page promotes The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Captain America: Brave New World as Disney+ streaming titles, but the page text reviewed does not establish either as part of the IMAX Enhanced collection. Do not infer eligibility from a theatrical IMAX release; use the Disney+ title badge, IMAX Enhanced filter or Versions tab.

The broader 18-film Marvel DTS:X launch slate

In April 2024, Disney announced this 18-film Marvel slate for the launch of IMAX Enhanced sound with DTS:X:

  1. Ant-Man and the Wasp
  2. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
  3. Avengers: Infinity War
  4. Avengers: Endgame
  5. Black Panther
  6. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
  7. Black Widow
  8. Captain America: Civil War
  9. Captain Marvel
  10. Doctor Strange
  11. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
  12. Eternals
  13. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
  14. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
  15. The Marvels
  16. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
  17. Thor: Love and Thunder
  18. Thor: Ragnarok

This is an official launch announcement, not a promise that all 18 titles remain available or carry the DTS:X badge in every country and interface. Read the announcement at Disney Plus Press.

How to find and select the IMAX version

  1. Open Disney+ and go to Movies.
  2. Apply the IMAX Enhanced filter.
  3. Open a movie and select Details to inspect its video and audio formats.
  4. If the title offers alternatives, open Versions.
  5. Choose IMAX Enhanced or Widescreen.

Supported films may automatically play with expanded framing. The Widescreen option is available only on select titles. If there is no Versions tab, the movie may switch to the taller frame only during qualifying scenes (Disney+ Help).

How to turn on DTS:X sound

  1. Start the movie on a compatible Android TV device.
  2. Open the playback controls.
  3. Select Audio Options on the far right.
  4. Choose IMAX Enhanced sound with DTS:X.
  5. Toggle it On.

A DTS:X badge should appear in the title’s Details section when the track is available. If the option does not appear, Disney says the device or title does not support it. A DTS:X-capable receiver or soundbar alone is not enough; the television, Disney+ app, operating system and audio path must all be compatible.

Do you need Disney+ Premium?

Disney’s current U.S. IMAX Enhanced landing page displays Disney+ Premium (No Ads) at $18.99 per month and says Premium is required. That price and plan wording were observed in August 2026 and can change.

Disney’s help material separately says all Disney+ subscribers can experience the expanded aspect ratio. Treat the requirements as two questions:

  • Expanded picture: available to Disney+ subscribers when the title and territory support it.
  • DTS:X sound: additionally dependent on the current plan terms, title, territory, supported Android TV model and compatible audio chain.

Verify the plan shown in your account and the format badges on the specific title before upgrading.

Which devices support IMAX Enhanced sound?

Disney currently names select Android TV devices from:

  • Sony
  • Hisense
  • Sharp
  • Xiaomi

That is not a blanket approval for every television from those brands. Confirm the exact model, Android TV version, firmware and Disney+ app support. An “IMAX Enhanced” logo on a television does not by itself prove that Disney+ DTS:X will play.

Why IMAX Enhanced may look unchanged

  • Only some scenes are expanded: the movie returns to widescreen for non-IMAX-formatted material.
  • Widescreen is selected: use the Versions tab and choose IMAX Enhanced where offered.
  • Display shape masks the change: on a very wide screen, a taller 1.90:1 image may show side bars or appear less dramatic.
  • Device or app limitations: update the Disney+ app and operating system, then recheck Details and Versions.
  • Catalogue or regional change: a title, version or audio track may not be available in your territory.
  • DTS:X is unsupported: the audio option will not appear when the device, title, plan or audio path is ineligible.

For persistent playback problems, follow Disney’s video-playback troubleshooting guidance linked from its IMAX Enhanced help page.

IMAX Enhanced versus Widescreen

Feature IMAX Enhanced Widescreen
Image shape Taller 1.90:1 framing when available Conventional presentation
Scene coverage May cover the whole film or selected sequences Standard framing throughout
Audio May include DTS:X on supported devices and titles Standard available audio formats
Compatibility Picture broadly supported; DTS:X restricted Broadest compatibility
Best for More vertical image and a more theatrical composition Consistent framing and fewer compatibility concerns

Bottom line

Try IMAX Enhanced first for large-screen, action-heavy Marvel films if you want more of the original vertical framing. Choose Widescreen if changing aspect ratios distracts you. Treat DTS:X as an optional, device-specific bonus rather than part of every IMAX Enhanced stream, and verify the live badge in your Disney+ app before relying on any catalogue or hardware assumption.
