Freevee was Amazon’s free, ad-supported streaming service. Amazon phased out the standalone Freevee brand and app during 2025. As of August 18, 2026, its free movies, series, former Originals and FAST (free ad-supported streaming television) channels are accessed through Prime Video instead. Eligible titles remain free with advertising, and you do not need a paid Amazon Prime membership to watch them.
What was Amazon Freevee?
Freevee was Amazon’s free, ad-supported video service, formerly known as IMDb TV. It offered licensed movies and television series, Amazon-produced programming, and scheduled FAST channels. Commercials funded the service instead of a monthly subscription.
Amazon made Freevee available to Prime members and non-members through its own app and within Prime Video. Amazon’s 2022 description presented it as a way to watch premium movies and shows without buying a subscription (Amazon’s Freevee announcement).
Is Freevee still available in 2026?
Not as a separate service. Amazon discontinued the standalone Freevee destination and moved its free programming into Prime Video. Amazon Ads describes Freevee’s free television, movies and FAST channels as integrated into Prime Video after the service’s deprecation (Amazon Ads’ FAST guide).

The separate app was scheduled to shut down in August 2025, with viewers directed to Prime Video, according to TechCrunch’s report. The important distinction is that the brand and app ended; the free-with-ads business model did not.
Do you need Amazon Prime?
No—for eligible content labeled free, “watch for free” or free with ads. You generally need an Amazon account, the Prime Video app or website, a supported device and an internet connection. You do not need to pay for Prime to access that free catalog.

Prime membership pricing shown by Amazon in March 2026 was $14.99 per month or $139 per year in the United States; prices can change. Someone who wants only free ad-supported viewing has no financial reason to join Prime unless the additional shopping or Prime-included video benefits matter.

What can you watch for free?
The selection changes with licensing and region. Typical categories include:
- Licensed movies and older or current television series
- Crime, reality, drama, comedy and family programming
- Former Freevee Originals, when rights permit
- Amazon MGM titles made available with advertising
- FAST channels covering news, lifestyle, entertainment, sports and niche interests
Amazon Ads currently claims more than 750 long-form FAST channels from more than 150 publishing partners in its Amazon FAST offering (Amazon Ads). Amazon’s broader entertainment page separately describes more than 900 free ad-supported channels across Amazon destinations (Amazon entertainment overview). These figures have different scopes and should not be treated as a permanent Freevee catalog count.
Examples of former Freevee programming include Bosch: Legacy, Jury Duty, Sprung, Primo, Hollywood Houselift with Jeff Lewis, The GOAT and Mock the Week. Their current access status must be checked title by title.

How to watch the former Freevee catalog now
- Open the Prime Video app on a supported television, streaming device, console or mobile device, or visit the Prime Video website.
- Sign in with an Amazon account, or create one if prompted.
- Browse sections labeled Free, Watch for free, Free with ads, Live TV or similar wording.
- Open a title and confirm its access label before pressing play.
- Expect advertisements during eligible free programming.
Amazon’s interface varies by device, account and country. Its redesigned Prime Video navigation separates areas such as Home, Movies, TV Shows, Sports, Live TV and the Prime destination (Amazon’s interface explanation). Supported devices and compatibility requirements can change (Prime Video help).

Prime Video is therefore a mixed storefront, not a single uniform subscription library. Search results can combine free, Prime-included, rental, purchase and channel options.
What does “free with ads” mean?
You do not pay a monthly subscription for an eligible title, but Amazon or its partners monetize viewing with advertising. Ads may appear before or during a program, and their placement can vary by title, device, country and partner. Free does not mean ad-free, downloadable, permanently available or identical to broadcast television.

A title can move from free viewing to Prime-included, rental, purchase or unavailable when rights change. FAST channels may offer scheduled playback even when the same program is not available on demand.

Prime membership does not convert every Prime Video program into an ad-free title. Free ad-supported movies, series and FAST channels remain ad-supported. Ordinary Prime programming may also carry limited advertising depending on market and plan.
Amazon introduced Prime Video Ultra in the United States at $4.99 per month, with an annual option listed at $45.99 for eligible Prime customers, according to its March 2026 announcement (Amazon’s Ultra announcement). Ultra includes ad-free playback for eligible programming plus features such as 4K/UHD, Dolby Atmos, up to five concurrent streams and up to 100 downloads. Amazon says live events, selected ad-supported content and some subscriptions may still contain ads.

What happened to Freevee Originals?
The programming did not automatically vanish when the label ended. Former Freevee Originals may appear in Prime Video’s free-with-ads catalog, in the broader Prime library, under a different label or not at all. Rights differ by country and expire over time, so no complete list remains permanently available.
What if a title is missing or asks for payment?
- Its license may have expired or changed country.
- It may have moved from free-with-ads to Prime-included, rental, purchase or a paid channel.
- Your Prime Video storefront may be set to a different region.
- The app or device may need an update.
- The program may be available only through a live FAST channel.
- Search may have returned a similarly named title with a different access method.
Search Prime Video for the title itself and inspect the access label. Do not search for a current “Freevee app”; the former standalone destination is gone. Download rules also vary by title and device, so do not assume that a former Freevee download is still supported.
Is Amazon’s free streaming option worth using?
Best for
- Viewers who want to avoid another monthly subscription
- Cord-cutters comfortable with commercial breaks
- Casual viewing and changing movie or series selections
- People who like scheduled FAST channels
Less suitable for
- Viewers who require ad-free playback
- Anyone expecting a permanent catalog
- People frustrated by an interface mixing free and paid choices
- Viewers seeking guaranteed downloads or identical availability in every country
Other free streaming services
Standalone alternatives include Tubi, Pluto TV, The Roku Channel, Crackle where available, and YouTube. Tubi emphasizes on-demand viewing, Pluto TV emphasizes scheduled channels, and Prime Video combines free programming with rentals, purchases, subscriptions and Prime-included titles. Catalogs and regional access change across all of them.
