It works on compatible TVs and streaming devices, and Freely says you do not need an aerial or satellite dish.
What is Freely TV?
Freely is a way to watch live television and catch up on programmes from UK broadcasters through an internet connection. It is developed by Everyone TV, an organisation owned by the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5. Those broadcasters support the service and provide programming; STV and S4C are also named among providers of channels and on-demand content.
Rather than being a paid subscription service, Freely brings live and on-demand viewing together in a shared interface. Is Freely free?
Freely describes its service as free to use. That does not mean every part of watching television through it is cost-free: you need broadband and compatible hardware, which may involve a purchase, and separate subscription apps on the same TV or device may charge their own fees. Those subscriptions are not included with Freely.

How do you get Freely?
The two main options are a television with Freely built in or a compatible streaming device connected to an existing TV. The service runs over broadband or Wi-Fi, and Freely says you do not need an aerial or satellite dish. Not every smart TV or streaming stick supports it, so check the exact model against Freely’s current device information before buying.

What channels and programmes are on Freely?
Freely brings live channels and on-demand programmes together, including services from the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5. STV and S4C have also been named as content providers. The precise selection can vary with the current service, location and device or connection details; launch information noted that offerings could differ between IP-only and hybrid IP and digital-terrestrial setups.

There is no channel count to rely on as a permanent figure. Names, numbers and availability can change, so use the official Freely channel list for the current directory.
Can you use Freely on an existing TV?
Yes, if you connect a streaming device that Freely currently lists as compatible and the TV has an available HDMI input. Check compatibility for the exact device model rather than assuming that any streaming box or stick will work. You will also need broadband or Wi-Fi in the room where you watch.

Do you need an aerial for Freely?
No. Freely is delivered over broadband, and the service says an aerial or satellite dish is not needed to use it. A compatible TV or streaming device and an internet connection are still required.

What to check before setting it up
- Verify that your exact TV or streaming-device model supports Freely.
- Make sure broadband or Wi-Fi is available where you plan to watch; Freely’s cited information does not establish a minimum broadband speed.
- If using a streamer, check that the TV has an available HDMI input.
- Consult Freely’s live channel directory for current channels and numbers.
- Check separately whether any additional apps you want to use require subscriptions.
