On view at the BDC Main gallery from October 1 through October 30, 2026, it brings together work from the center’s youth, senior and adult education programs alongside community portraits and long-term projects.
What is “Built in the Bronx” about?
The title’s “15 Years” is the BDC’s anniversary framing for the exhibition. Rather than presenting only work by outside photographers, the show looks at photography education and community documentary work developed through the center, which describes itself as a nonprofit gallery and educational space.

The BDC frames the exhibition as an intergenerational record of everyday life, people and places, change and continuity, challenges and celebrations. It highlights former adult education students who went on to build photography careers.
What can visitors see?
The exhibition draws on work from several BDC programs and projects:
#1 Best Overall
- Photographs made through the BDC Youth Photo League and Senior Photo League.
- Work from the center’s adult education programs, including former students who pursued photography careers.
- Community portraits and long-term documentary projects developed at the BDC.
- Photographs from the Jerome Avenue Workers Project and work made in Claremont Village.
The BDC says it believes documentary photography should not only represent a community, but give people tools and support to tell their own stories. That is the institution’s stated perspective on the exhibition; it is not an independent assessment.
The official description does not provide an itemized list of exhibited photographs or photographers, so visitors should not expect the exhibition summary to identify every work in the galleries.
