Amazon News is not one fixed channel package. The name can mean Amazon’s corporate newsroom, an older Fire TV news app, or the newer news destination inside Prime Video. For viewers in the United States, that Prime Video destination brings together free, generally ad-supported live streams and on-demand news; some full network services are separate paid subscriptions.
What does “Amazon News” mean?
There are several Amazon products and services that can be called Amazon News, and they are not interchangeable.
- Amazon’s corporate newsroom: About Amazon News publishes company announcements, product updates, business stories and features. It is not a live-TV service.
- The older Amazon News app: Fire TV’s earlier news experience gathered video clips and free, ad-supported streams. Amazon’s Fire TV announcements and FOX distribution deals referred to this experience, but Amazon’s newer consumer-facing announcement centers on Prime Video.
- Prime Video’s news destination: Amazon announced a dedicated news area on the Prime Video homepage for U.S. customers in December 2025. It brings together live streams and on-demand programming from news providers.
- Alexa News and Flash Briefing: These are spoken news updates selected through the Alexa app, not a live-TV channel lineup.
- Fire TV Channels: This is a broader free, ad-supported streaming service that may include news. It is not another name for the Prime Video news destination.
Amazon distributes programming from third-party news providers; a provider appearing in its interface does not mean Amazon produces or endorses every report. Amazon’s technical documentation describes Prime Video’s linear channels as supporting both free and subscription-based live programming: Prime Video linear-channel documentation.

Amazon’s December 2025 announcement named examples including ABC News Live, CBS News 24/7, LiveNOW from Fox, CNN Headlines, NBC News NOW, BBC News, FOX Weather, Bloomberg TV+, NBC Sports NOW and Telemundo Al Día. It also described local and regional stations and coverage of business, finance, world news, sports, entertainment, Spanish-language news and weather. Amazon said the expanding service would include more than 200 news channels; that is a dated announcement, not a permanent count or a guarantee that every channel appears in every market. “Channel” can mean different things in the interface. A viewer may encounter a continuous live feed, a participating local station’s stream, individual on-demand clips, a category of news, or a paid provider page. The lineup is an aggregation, not a single station schedule.
- Local and regional: Participating broadcasters may offer live local news or clips, depending on the market. FOX Television Stations, for example, announced 17 local free, ad-supported channels for distribution through Amazon News in 2023: FOX’s distribution announcement.
- National and international: Examples in Amazon’s announcement include ABC News Live, CBS News 24/7, BBC News and NBC News NOW.
- Specialty coverage: Business, finance, weather, sports, entertainment and Spanish-language programming are among the categories Amazon identified.
- On-demand video: Providers can supply clips as well as linear streams, so not every item is a live channel.
Is Amazon News free?
Amazon said U.S. customers could access its Prime Video news destination at no additional charge, including people without Prime membership. Free streams are generally supported by advertising. A free news stream is not the same as a full cable-style network feed or a paid service bearing a familiar network name.

For example, Amazon’s August 2025 announcement listed FOX One at $19.99 per month. It is a paid package, not part of the free news lineup, and includes FOX News Channel, FOX Business Network, FOX Weather, FOX local stations, FOX Sports, FS1, FS2, FOX Deportes, BTN and FOX entertainment programming. Amazon announced CNN All Access for Prime Video in the U.S. on June 18, 2026, at $6.99 monthly or an introductory $41.99 annual plan. The announcement described U.S. and international live news programming, 24/7 global live channels, CNN Originals and Films, live events, breaking-news coverage, on-demand video and access to CNN.com and the CNN app after linking Amazon credentials. These are dated launch terms, not a promise of the current price: Amazon’s CNN All Access announcement.

Before confirming a subscription, check its recurring price and whether the page identifies it as a paid channel. Amazon’s interface can place subscription services alongside free streams.
How does the service work?
News providers supply live streams, clips or both. Amazon presents that programming in Prime Video or Fire TV, with free content typically funded by advertising and some premium providers selling subscriptions through Prime Video. What appears can be filtered by location, device, account status and rights agreements. A provider’s branding may therefore show up as a free digital stream, clips, or a separately paid service.

How to find and watch news on Prime Video or Fire TV
Prime Video
- Open the Prime Video app on a supported device.
- Look on the homepage or in the top navigation for the dedicated News destination.
- Browse available categories, then choose a live stream or on-demand item.
- If a title displays a subscription prompt, review the service and price: it is a paid offering rather than part of the free news collection.
Amazon described the news destination as rolling out through the U.S. Prime Video homepage. Menu placement and labels can differ by app version and device. If News is not visible, update the app, restart the device, confirm the account’s country, and search Prime Video for “news” or the provider’s name.
Fire TV
On Fire TV, news may be accessible in Prime Video, the Live TV or channel guide, Fire TV Channels, the Apps area, or through Alexa voice search. The exact route depends on the software version. Older instructions that say to open the separate Amazon News app describe an earlier or device-dependent experience, not a universally available current app. Amazon referenced the app in its 2022 Fire TV announcement; its newer announcement emphasizes the Prime Video destination.

Echo Show and Alexa audio briefings
Compatible Echo Show devices may offer video news experiences, but features vary by device. For spoken news, Alexa’s News and Flash Briefing use providers selected in the Alexa app. Open the app’s news or Flash Briefing settings, choose available providers, and set a default if offered. Then try “Alexa, what’s the news?” or “Alexa, play my Flash Briefing.” This produces an audio briefing rather than selecting a live-TV stream. Which devices and countries support it?
The dedicated news destination described by Amazon is a U.S.-focused rollout. Prime Video is available on many smart TVs and streaming devices, including Fire TV devices, but the news interface and particular feeds are not guaranteed to appear identically on every model or in every country. Echo Show video features and Alexa audio briefings are separate experiences with their own device and provider availability. Check the app on the device and account you plan to use rather than assuming that a channel listed in an announcement is available in your location.
Why might a channel or the News section be missing?
- Different product or menu: News may be in Prime Video, the Fire TV live guide or Fire TV Channels rather than a separate Amazon News app.
- Region or rollout: The dedicated destination announced for U.S. customers may not be available to an account set to another country, and launches can vary by device.
- Local station coverage: Local streams depend on your market, participating stations, rights and whether the provider offers a live feed or only clips.
- Subscription requirement: A paid service such as CNN All Access or FOX One is distinct from free digital news streams, even when its brand also appears elsewhere in the catalog.
- App or software version: Update Prime Video and Fire TV software, restart the device, and search by the provider name if the News tab is absent.
If a particular stream remains unavailable, check the provider’s own app or website. For buffering, first see whether other streaming apps work, then restart the device and router, install available updates, and test the provider’s own app to distinguish a channel issue from a broader connection problem.

Amazon’s news area is an aggregation layer: it puts programming from participating providers in an Amazon interface. A network’s own app or website may offer a different selection; local station apps may be more useful for a particular market; and other free streaming aggregators or YouTube streams have their own catalogs. Paid live-TV services are a different proposition if you need a traditional package, authenticated cable programming or other features. Choose by the specific live feeds and local coverage you want, not by assuming that a familiar network logo means its entire cable channel is included.
