What happens in the clip?
Metallica’s description of the clip focuses on Pete and Sarah and Pete’s recovery after a serious motorcycle accident. The possibility of seeing Metallica live gave him something to work toward as he tried to get back on his feet. The clip is presented as part of the documentary Metallica Saved My Life. Metallica’s clip description identifies the story and its connection to the film.
What is Metallica Saved My Life about?
The film tells stories of fans whose lives and relationships have been shaped by Metallica and its music. The band describes it as a portrait of fans supporting one another through difficult and joyful times over more than four decades. Tribeca’s 2025 festival description also emphasizes the ways the music has helped people face personal challenges and the bond between the group and its fans. Those descriptions frame it as a fan-centered documentary, not simply a conventional history of the band.
Metallica’s April 8, 2025 announcement thanked the fans who shared their lives with the filmmakers, saying, “To all the fans who so generously gave us their time and let us into their lives, we say ‘thank you.’ This film is all about YOU!” Read the band’s announcement.

Director, contributors and listed runtimes
Jonas Åkerlund directed the documentary. Tribeca’s festival archive lists Metallica, Jason Momoa, Tony Hawk and fans from around the world among its contributors. The British Council UK Films Database records Mercury Studios as the production company.
The two catalogue records give different runtimes, with no explanation for the discrepancy. Tribeca lists a 120-minute UK feature for its 2025 festival presentation; the British Council database records the completed 2025 feature at 135 minutes. These are attributed catalogue listings, not one universally established runtime.
