Three days later, he said his doctor considered his voice safe and that rest should allow him to perform in Toronto. Reports did not establish a diagnosis or explain what caused his voice to fail.
What happened at the SoFi Stadium concert?
During the September 3, 2022, show in Inglewood, The Weeknd walked offstage while performing “Can’t Feel My Face.” After another song began and the house lights came up, he returned to address the audience and said he had lost his voice and could not continue. The Los Angeles Times described the stoppage as coming three songs into the set; Reuters said he cut the concert short after four songs. Both accounts agree that the show ended early.
He apologized, telling the crowd, “I can’t give you what I want to give you.” He also said, “I’m going to make sure everyone is good, you’ll get your money back,” and promised to perform for them again, according to the Los Angeles Times’ report from the concert. Reuters also reported the cancellation in a September 4, 2022, account.
Why did he say his voice went out?
In a statement after the concert, The Weeknd wrote: “My voice went out during the first song and I’m devastated. Felt it go and my heart dropped. My deepest apologies to my fans here. I promise I’ll make it up to you with a new date.” That describes when he said he first felt the problem; it differs from reporters’ accounts of how many songs had been performed before the show ended.

The available reports do not identify a specific cause or diagnosis. They do not establish that he had vocal-cord damage, laryngitis, exhaustion or another medical condition. His description of losing his voice is not, by itself, a diagnosis.
What did he say about his recovery?
On September 6, 2022, The Weeknd posted that his doctor said his voice was safe and that rest would leave him able to perform for Toronto fans. The Los Angeles Times reported that he planned to resume the tour with Toronto shows scheduled for September 22 and 23, 2022. This was a dated update about his plans at the time, not a current tour schedule. The statement is reported in the Los Angeles Times’ September 6 coverage.
