Calling the episode a “fail” is a reaction to the awkward podium moment, not an explanation of the address.

What was his speech about?
Leblanc Fils used his address to argue that Haiti was owed recognition and justice for its history, and he called for reparations. In the UN’s official English meeting record, the speech says: “We demand recognition of the moral and historic debt and implementation of justice.”
He also framed Haiti’s history in terms of freedom and resistance to colonialism, saying that the country “seeks not charity but justice, respect for its dignity and its right to a dignified and prosperous existence.” These are the speaker’s arguments as recorded in the UN meeting record, not an independent institutional finding about the claims. Why call for reparations?
Leblanc Fils connected the demand to what he described as a moral and historical debt owed to Haiti, and to the country’s present difficulties. His appeal was for recognition and justice, rather than charity. The UN record documents what he argued; it should not be treated as independent verification of every historical or contemporary claim in the speech.
The pitcher incident and the political message are separate parts of the same address: the first was a conspicuous moment at the podium, while the second was the substance of his remarks. The awkward clip does not, by itself, answer or rebut the speech’s claims.
