She was discussing her own experience of self-pleasure and body image—not claiming a real qualification or offering medical advice.
What Eilish said
In the interview, Eilish described self-pleasure as significant in her life, saying: “TMI, but self-pleasure is an enormous, enormous part of my life, and a huge, huge help for me.” After the conversation, she joked, “I should have a Ph.D. in masturbation.” The interviewer presents it as a humorous closing line, not a literal credential.
Why she was talking about self-pleasure
Eilish connected the subject to her relationship with her body. She said that looking at herself in a mirror was one way she had developed a deeper connection with her body and a more accepting view of her appearance. Those remarks describe her personal experience; they do not establish that masturbation treats body dysmorphia or produces the same effect for other people.
The conversation also touched on her sexuality and the attention around earlier public comments. Eilish spoke about discomfort with feeling pressured to discuss or label herself, so the joke should be read in the context of a broader, personal interview rather than as a definitive statement about her identity.
