These dates establish a compelling championship chronology, but they do not by themselves prove broader claims sometimes made about the events, such as an MTV ratings record or a particular level of cultural impact.
The masked Spider Lady match and Richter’s departure
Richter’s WWF run ended after a title match against the masked Spider Lady on November 25, 1985, according to CBS Sports’ oral history of WWE in 1985. In that account, Richter says she recognized Fabulous Moolah beneath the mask, believed the count was unusually fast, and left the promotion. Those are Richter’s recollections as reproduced by CBS Sports; the article also includes other participants’ memories, but does not independently adjudicate backstage intent.

Richter’s own reflection in the CBS Sports oral history is: “When I did leave from there, it was time. I had to go.” The match is sometimes given the unofficial nickname “the original screwjob,” but it was not an official event name. The sources cited here do not establish a definitive explanation for the decision-making behind the match or her exit.

WWE lists Richter as a two-time Women’s Champion and a 2010 Hall of Fame inductee. Its profile presents her as a figure who helped carry the Rock ’n’ Wrestling Connection into popular culture. This makes her institutional recognition clear, while leaving the size of her influence unmeasured.

The Women’s Wrestling Hall of Fame’s biographical page offers a wider-career overview, though its biographical account relies on linked secondary references. Specific claims about championships outside her WWF run therefore need individual verification before being treated as settled counts.
Calling Richter “forgotten” is an editorial judgment, not a conclusion established by these sources. WWE continues to recognize her, and the first WrestleMania and MTV title events remain visible milestones in its history. A more precise description is that her career is remembered most clearly through a brief, unusually visible championship run and a contested departure whose details remain tied to participant recollections.
