Derry Fleming is the Irish dad learning a 14-second TikTok routine to The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” while his wife, two daughters and son Tadhg coach him. Tadhg films the family’s attempts as they move from their kitchen to the yard, where Derry finally completes the dance.
Who is the Irish dad in the TikTok dance?
The dad is Derry Fleming, a member of the Fleming family associated with County Kerry, Ireland. His son, Tadhg Fleming, is the creator behind the recording and the person filming the lesson.
The family became known for humorous social-media videos featuring ordinary household situations turned into comic performances. This dance clip was reported in late March and early April 2020, during the social-distancing period when families were looking for ways to spend time together at home.
What song and routine does Derry learn?
The routine is set to 14 seconds of The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights.” Its short length makes the clip easy to follow, but Derry still needs repeated demonstrations before he can match the sequence.

- Start in the kitchen. Derry begins learning the movements indoors while Tadhg records the attempts.
- Practise with the family. Derry’s wife, two daughters and Tadhg demonstrate the steps and correct him as he tries to keep pace.
- Move outside. After several attempts, the group takes the routine into the yard for more space and another recording.
- Finish the routine. Derry eventually gets through the complete sequence, giving the family a finished take to share.
Why the clip is memorable
The appeal is less about polished choreography than the family’s good-natured persistence. Derry’s relatives keep teaching rather than replacing him, and the progression from kitchen practice to the successful yard performance gives the short video a clear comic payoff.
