The moment is sweet, but it is a snapshot of two particular animals—not evidence that otters generally make suitable companions for cats or people.
What happens in the video?
The 43-second clip featured in Daily Paws shows Sakura and Mochi cuddling together. The article, published January 25, 2021, identifies their owner as Mako and reports that this was the first time the pair had snuggled. Daily Paws said the clip had delighted more than 8 million viewers at the time; that is a historical figure, not a current view count.
Who are Sakura and Mochi?
Daily Paws describes Sakura as a small-clawed otter native to Southeast Asia and Mochi as a tabby cat. The article also mentions that Sakura ate raw smelt for dinner and swam in a large bathtub. Those are reported details about this individual animal, not guidance for keeping an otter.
Why a cute clip needs a wildlife caveat
An affectionate moment between these two animals should not obscure the needs of the species. Daily Paws author Tracey L. Kelley cautioned: “It’s essential to note that otters, while obviously captivating creatures, are wild animals and require their natural environment and family groups to thrive.” The video is a charming encounter, not a reason to seek out, handle, or keep an otter.
