Wallows’ first Western Australian performance made it to Fremantle Arts Centre on 5 December 2024 with its usual production curtailed by wind. In PerthNow’s review, Kellie Balaam judged that Dylan Minnette, Braeden Lemasters and Cole Preston made the night work through strong playing and direct crowd engagement, even with a less elaborate setup.
What happened at Wallows’ Fremantle debut?
The Los Angeles indie pop-rock trio performed in Perth for the first time in its career, and in Western Australia for the first time, at Fremantle Arts Centre on Thursday, 5 December 2024. The band began after 8:15pm, according to Kellie Balaam’s PerthNow review published the following day.
The group is made up of Dylan Minnette, Braeden Lemasters and Cole Preston. Balaam describes Minnette as lead singer and multi-instrumentalist, Preston as predominantly the drummer, and Lemasters as a guitarist.
How did the wind affect the show?
Wind prevented the band from showcasing the production it normally used. Minnette told the audience, “It’s going to be a full-on rock ‘n’ roll show,” as reported by PerthNow, but Balaam describes the first half as raw and stripped back in production. Later, a more colourful illuminated Wallows sign added a visual lift.

The reported opening pair was “Your Apartment,” followed by “Anytime, Always.” Balaam also names “Scrawny,” “Bad Dream,” “These Days” and “Calling After Me.” These are the songs identified in the review, not a complete setlist.

What made the performance memorable?
The review’s standout moments were audience-facing rather than dependent on elaborate staging. Lemasters left the stage to sing from within the crowd. Minnette handed a fan the setlist paper and threw bracelets toward the front rows. After an encore chant, the band returned for two more songs.

Balaam gave the concert 3.5 out of 5 stars. Her assessment was that the band’s musical ability and engagement with the crowd carried the evening, while the less flashy setup did not stop fans from enjoying it. The review describes thousands of fans but does not give a verified attendance figure.
