In June 2019, a woman lost her footing and fell from a pendulum-style ride at a fair in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico, and the moving ride reached her as she lay on the platform. Contemporaneous coverage agrees on the city and the date, June 14, 2019. It does not agree on the venue name, and no primary medical or regulatory record has been published that settles the open questions. This article separates what the footage and reporters directly describe from what officials and outlets attributed to others.
What the footage shows
The clip circulated online after the accident and was carried by several outlets in the days that followed. Coverage describes a ride that swings a seated group of riders through a pendulum motion. The woman falls while the ride is still moving. Rather than stopping at once, the ride continues, and reporters describe a part of the structure reaching her and dragging her across the platform. The visual record is short, and the reporting around it is the main guide to what happened off camera.
Excélsior, the Mexican daily, named the ride “El Péndulo” in its June 17 account. It reported that a restraint on the seat came loose, which is how the woman came to fall onto the platform. That explanation comes from the outlet’s reporting of the incident. No engineering assessment of the restraint has been published, so it should be read as a description of what was reported, not a confirmed cause.

What happened to the woman
The woman has not been named in any of the coverage reviewed, and this article does not name her. Outlets report that she got up or walked away from the scene. EL PAÍS reported that she was attended immediately and that she did not have injuries that put her life at risk. KVIA reported that she walked away without serious injuries.

These are secondhand accounts. No hospital statement, medical report, or on-the-record description from the woman herself was published in the reporting reviewed. Readers should treat “no serious injuries” as what two outlets said, not as a confirmed clinical outcome. The reporting also does not say whether she required treatment after leaving the scene, or whether she was later hospitalized.
Where it happened: the venue question
The city and date are consistent across coverage. The specific venue is not. Coverage places the fair in different locations, and the difference matters if you want to look up the site or the operator.

| Outlet | Venue named | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Excélsior | Finca Bonita neighborhood, Ciudad Juárez | Also identifies the ride as “El Péndulo” |
| EL PAÍS | Finca Bonita | Reports the rider was attended immediately |
| Scroll | Kataplum at Plaza las Antenas | Venue differs from the two Spanish-language outlets |
| Indian Express and KVIA | Finca Bonita (the mayor’s post names this location) | Quote the official statement rather than an operator record |
No primary municipal incident record or operator statement was found that resolves the difference. Until one is available, the safest description is “a fair in Ciudad Juárez,” with the Finca Bonita attribution marked as reported by Excélsior and EL PAÍS.
The official response
Juárez mayor Armando Cabada addressed the incident in a Facebook post, as quoted by Indian Express in English translation. The outlet’s rendering reads: “The mechanical games detected at Finca Bonita were operating clandestinely and without any operating permit, which is why they were already closed by Civil Protection. We can be better.” The English wording is the outlet’s translation of a Spanish-language post, not the original text.

The statement says the mechanical rides were operating without a permit and had been closed by Civil Protection. It is a public statement by an official, not an inspection report. It does not describe what inspectors found, which rides were examined, or whether any operator faces charges.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What remains unknown
- The rider’s identity. No name has been published in the coverage reviewed.
- The full medical outcome. The only descriptions are attributed to two outlets, with no primary medical source.
- The cause of the restraint failure. Excélsior reported that the restraint came loose. No engineering finding has been published.
- The authoritative venue name. Outlets disagree, and no municipal or operator record has settled it.
- Final regulatory findings. The mayor’s statement is the only official description located, and no later inspection or enforcement outcome was reported in the coverage reviewed.
- The ride’s current status. Nothing in the coverage establishes whether the ride has reopened, been repaired, or been permanently withdrawn. Anything written about its present condition would go beyond the record.
Readers searching for the current operating status of the ride or the outcome of any inquiry should check local Chihuahua and Ciudad Juárez government channels, which publish civil protection and permit actions, rather than relying on secondary coverage from 2019.

Taken together, the reporting supports a narrow conclusion: a rider fell from a moving pendulum ride at a fair in Ciudad Juárez on June 14, 2019, and the ride reached her before it stopped. The official record reviewed says the rides at the venue lacked a permit and were closed. Everything else, including how serious her injuries were and why the restraint gave way, remains unestablished.
